Evening Everyone

I currently run a Mini Cooper S, but with the news that the missus has got a bun in the oven I now have an excuse to get a new car... I'm thinking of getting a 5 door 130i, however, are they practical enough? Anyone else have kids and comfortably fit in all the paraphernalia that goes along with the joys of parenthood? I'd be gutted to fork out only to come to the conclusion that I should have got a 330 instead!

Your replies much appreciated along with alternate car suggestions (other possibilities - Golf Gti Mk5/R32, 4 door 330, C class Merc.......)

Thanks all

Will

great car but have heard reports that prams and buggies struggle to fit in the boot. Depends what sort of baby transport you get. 130i is fast and fun!

The one thing that would concern me would be the width of the boot. It ain't wide.

The 1 series clearly isn't the biggest or most practical car in the world, however, don't believe the Clarkson drivel and all those irritating sheep that hang on his every word.

The backseats aren't the roomiest for adults on a long trip, but they're absolutely fine otherwise. No issue with baby seats and I think they've all got those isofix thingys.

As for the boot, its quite a bit bigger than people think (mine takes 2 large suitcases that wouldn't go in my Civic), but I would say choose your pram etc carefully and accept that you aren't going to be able to throw half as much in there as, say, a 3 series touring.

Plenty of people manage with them as small family cars.

I haven't got any kids but find the boot ok space wise for what we use it for. Also the back seats are fine.... I,ve sat in the back for a 300 mile journey and not found them to be an issue.

The 1 series hatch is amazingly practical, you can get a big off road buggy in it no problem at all.

Can't say the E91 touring we swapped it for actually offered all that more space, the boot line slopes pretty quick on the estate as it does on all estates these days, so actual usable load space wasn't anything to shout about, and the 1er is far more luggage friendly than most saloons.

Guys - searching the BMW forum now to find info on the 130i. Finding out when clutches need changing, any issues etc. If anyone has info/links it will be gratefully received!

If you're looking for potential weak points / problems, you won't find much.

Check http://www.babybmw.net/ if you haven't already.
