I saw a picture of a new XKR (S I think) in today's Sunday Times from the Geneva show and the front lights were different from the current car's. Anyone know if this is a sneak preview of the face lifted XK?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Ed, think you can say this is the future look for the final year of production...

Thanks for the replies and the link to the other thread. Blimey, how did I miss that one!

I think those lights are fantastic. The only problem is that this means I will want a new one rather than buying back my old XKR.

Hey, hows it going. I'm out of touch with Jag at the moment, so are you saying that the new (as in all-new) XK is likely to be out next year? Sounds a bit soon, but interesting.

You sold the F430! How come? The 997 Turbo is nice mind you......

There is evidently going to be one last facelift of the current XK, 2012 is the last year of production, then an all new XK. This new XKR-S may well show what is in store for the rest of the XK range, excluding the aero stuff for it's final dance.

Following this there is the much mooted XE Roadster, using a shortened all new XK platform. XE will be V6 & Supercharged V6, due end 2012.

Had a look at this at the Geneva motor show today. Very tasty, but cant agree with the rear wing style. Just not perfect for the car, way to much MG Rover.

It's all way too fussy. Car manufacturers always do this when a model approaches the end of its life. They just stick bits all over the place and ruin the original clean lines.

Which is pretty much what I was going to say but didn't want to seem negative.

A bit of light axe-work and an eBay stick-on leaper.

I don't know how you guys across the pond refer to this sort of styling but here in the states most would probably say that the styling is a bit too "ricey".

Sounds like how a Brummy would say "racey". So in that case, I agree with you.

He means it looks Japanese, and he is right. It is like a more elegant edition of a Nissan GTR.

I am sure that it is a wonderful, staggering car, and it is great to see decent seats in it, but the bodykit is totally OTT. The 'Mexican Moustache' look front end is truly awful, a cheap attempt to make a car which is fundamentally beautiful look like something else. I would be itching to prise it off.

At £97k this is a top end high performance GT to compete with the Aston DB9/DBS/Virage, the Ferrari 599, Lamborghini Gallardo, BMW M6 or the Maserati GT MC Stradale. Do you see them coming out with a load of stuff that looks as if it had been stolen off a Subaru Impreza in the car park? Applying the GTRS look is not just a question of raiding Halfords. Porsche do it superbly with the GT3RS but they have been practising on the 911 for a long time.

All they needed was a well designed tail spoiler, a special set of alloys, a few more discreet slots and vents, maybe slightly flared wheelarches, a couple of special cast ali bonnet vents and the car would have been beyond sublime. Instead it looks embarrassed to have started off as a good looking car. What are these guys on?

This is 2011. The car was introduced in 2006. How can the XK be at the end of its life in any shape or form? It is beautiful. OK the market is tough, but it is basically beautiful, just not this particular model.

Firstly, I don’t believe for a minute that this is supposed to be competing with Gallardo or the 599.

Next, the Maserati GT MC Stradale has had the same Halfords treatment, with an unusual front bumper, axe-wounds, interior scaffolding. Aston are also prolific in their use of an axe to create “sporty” holes in the bodywork of their racier versions.

I personally don’t like the rear wing, but believe a better one could have been done, and perhaps there will be another option. Even just removing the curved sides of the wing would make it fine. I do like the front though.

I like the lights 10 fold over the previous lot, when I first saw it I thought 'wow' looks good but the more I stare at it the less I like that big lump of black at the front. Not sure on the way it cuts in a long the front edge between the black and the bumper itself either. Maybe if it was the same colour as the car you would lose it.

I dont mind the side vents, dont like the wing vent, do like the new 'nostrils', I like the way they taper off from the bonnet bulge, dont like the rear wing, I would prefer the earlier RS spoiler which is just a bigger version of the original.

I will reserve final judgement for the standard road going XK, the pumped up version will never appeal to everyone.

That's a nasty face lift. It's not much more sucessful than the disasterous rework they did on the previous model XJ.

It's a very nasty unsympathetic facelift indeed. I will be heartbroken if they do that to the rest of the range. What are they doing? Is the next XK / F-Type going to do away with the oval grille and have a Nissan GTR style opening with some black things poking out? Is this a 'hint' at the way forward. Please, NOOOOO!

It's as if someone left a tarpaulin draped over the car and it accidentally all got sprayed the same colour.

Now seen it and I am big enough to admit I was wrong.

The car looks awesome in the flesh. The spoiler is not tacky it is beautifully crafted, and the 'mexican moustache' works in a way I hadn't anticipated. The whole car sits lower - visually and actually, and these lines tie it down to a dramatic low baseline which is established by the front splitter.

It does something that Jaguar haven't done since the E-Type, which is do a production car which looks and feels like something straight off a grid. The E felt like a racer of the 50's. This feels like a modern racer. Magnificent. This totally competes with a 599. And the rest. I saw a 599GTO parked outside a flash Mayfair restaurant yesterday, and I can assure you that the XKRS has a great deal more presence.

I'll have one in Italian Racing Red.
