Land Rover World Record Attempt, Gaydon 23-24 April 2011
Discussion
Here is an interesting event for you, something unusual. A group of Land Rover enthusiasts have got together to raise a heap of funds for the worthy Help For Heroes charity, and at the same time have a bit of fun.
Held at the Heritage Motor Centre, Banbury Road, Gaydon, Warwickshire CV35 0BJ it’s an attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for the Longest Land Rover Parade, previously set at Towcester Racecourse in Northants 2004.
Called CONVOY for HEROES they aim to have a convoy of 500 or more Land Rovers under the conditions set by Guinness World Records™. The record was set at 260 vehicles (set because it was first established in 2004 and there hadn’t been a record before that), with Series, Defenders, 101FC’s, Lightweights, Freelanders, Rangies and Discoveries all joining in. Now seven years on, with the Range Rover Sport thrown into the mix, there are an awful lot more Land Rover models out there, so achieving the goal of 500+ should be a doodle … we hope!
23-24 April is the Easter weekend, so hopefully that will entice a few more owners to turn out as the Monday will obviously be a Bank Holiday, so no work!!!
The weekend however won’t just be confined to the world record attempt as there will be a host of attractions due to be announced very soon. Until then, have a look at the website for more details - http://www.convoy4heroes.org.uk
Hope to see you there!!!

It may be worth mentioning this in the "Midlands" and the "4x4" sections to get a better audience. I have also mentioned this to a few friends who are interested but not Pistonheaders and said that they would put posters up advertising the event in the windows of their vehicles if thats OK?
Of course that's okay - thanks, it's appreciated.
Not being a regular here (I didn't even know there was a Midlands or a 4x4 section - doh!!!) I didn't want to seem OTT with posting about this event. You wouldn't believe it but some forums regard my post as 'spamming'. Selling a commercial product I can readliy understand, but a charity event with every last penney raised going to Help of Heroes??? No, I don't understand either!

Thanks for that. Good stuff!
Still trying to dry out after that Sunday, it did bucket down somewhat. Probably flags strewn all over the A43 to this day. I was the nutter at the Adjudication Point shouting out that "We've done it!" ... and we did. Quite an achievement establishing a world record, I have all those who entered to thank for that - collectively it was 'our' record.
Also, the record may get officially beaten this time around, but this will be on private land (Land Rover's very own 3-mile test track behind the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon as it happens) but in my mind our record was established on a public highway, and that's something because of legislation that will probably never be beaten. So Landy on no Landy, you're still a "record breaker" as Roy Castle used to say!!!
