my choices one of the following
porsche gt2 996.997 would be nearest to 500 griff experience
nissan gtr farthest from a 500 griff
porsche 997 turbo compromise tween the 2 above
any body driven any of the above

Porsche Turbo is about as far from a Griff as you can get,Now a 360 modena with the traction turned of is as scary as anything ive driven,,

thought the GT2 being nicknamed widow maker would be up with a Griff for driving experience.
Compromise Porkie Turbo as wife wants to drive it, my choice would be GT2 and wife is quite happy if i kill myself as she reckons i,m due to in Griff anyway.

yes but looking for something more modern had a windfall with a 6 pence in pound pension scheme i started when i was an engineer cadet in MN.if i was looking for an ancient i,d be back with me Mk1 lotus cortina. but to get the full experience from that as you,d have to keep the engine buzzing in todays traffic would be bloody frustrating, so need the torque .

It's always a debate I have . . .

Maybe it's time to sell and move onto something else, however I'm not sure the V8 Vantage would be it. After that the list is very short and very difficult to attain

A good mate of mine has just swapped his 997TT for a 4.7 Vantage. Stunning car, far more stirring than the Porker was and I would even consider the roadster version (which this one isn't unfortunately) to be a great modern alternative to our beloved Griffs. However I am surprised at the build quality ( I know - ironic discussing build quality as a TVR owner !! ) or lack of it at least. I've only had a quick look over it and a very short ride around my village so far. Had a poke and a prod, love the pen inserted into the dash that looks like a toggle switch etc. All really nice touches - but do you think we could get the glove box closed again once it was opened ?!!

All in all a lovely bit of kit though, sounds great with the sports exhaust and seems to go well. Looking forward to having a proper go in it soon.
Do I want one ? Yes.
Would it be instead of the Griff ? No.
One day I will have a lovely feeling as I open up the garage door and have to decide whether to take the AMV8 or the Griff. That day unfortunately is a very long way off unless I manage to correctly predict those 6 magic numbers

Anyone want to buy a Griff

Hire one for a week, & see if you still feel the same,, A customer of mine just bought a V8 convertible 4.7 drove it home from Aston dealer and it up for sale hates it,,, that was wednesday last week,

Quinney, be very very sure you want to do this. A friend of mine bought one and the history file runs into many £1000`s, unlike a Griff not all parts can be sourced from Ford/Vauxhall etc. I have access to one and it is a heavy uninviting drive, usually with electrical glitches along the way and the fuel gauge rapidly heading left, if I have a choice I let someone else drive it and take anything else.

The warranty on them are ste as well.. Go on to the Aston forum & see how many claims that get thrown out, Rust on both doors are a common thing...
Mind you the late DB7 V12s have fibre glass wings so not going that far away from the TIV

Been in a couple of AMV8's and get the sense of occasion because it's an Aston, not driven one so can't comment on personal experience but all the reviews say they're simply not dynamically as good as a straight comparison to Porsche, each driver will find it different however.

In the Aston I don't like the dash or the use of space. We're spoilt in the Griffith for space, but the Aston is a real let down for a car it's size. Again, beaten by the Porsche in this respect. I also don't like the Mondeo Sat nav pop up and I really wish they'd lose the Power, Beauty, Soul or whatever it reads in the dash, it's so naff.

As for noise, you really must have to buy the sports exhaust as pulling fuse 26 (I seem to remember) doesn't give it enough sound.

Heard a few horror stories on bills as well.

However, they are stunning to look at and it's an Aston and if we all liked the same thing it's be a boring place. I'm sure you will. but drop BB a call/email to ask him about his ownership experience to date, he's loving his.

Given we may need additional seating in the next couple of years it's off the list . . . which takes me full into Porsche territory I'm afraid . . . as otherwise it's hot hatches or super saloons, neither of which float my boat as a fun car and having snapped one Cerbera crank shaft already and only just made it round a Euro tour in another as it's radiator failed, the doors wouldn't open, the starter motor died, the boot wouldn't lock and the windows gave up the ghost I'd never entertain owning one - this was a new'ish one for the time! !

It must be great fun looking, it's such a good buzz, so enjoy Q, I'm sure you will.

I have some very specific requirements, 1 of them being no more than 2 previous owners.....I was lead to believe this was the situation with this one, but suffice to say I was miss led....

The thing is, at that price I could have kept the Griff, but it's obvious I'm not going to match my spec at that price so the Griff has to go, to increase the budget, and get that "special" car

quinny i know excatly what you mean i too thought of an aston, but ive driven a DB9 wifes daughter "super Puss" has 2 one silver hard top and one black convertible curtesy of hubbie number 3. you know i,m a big bstd and have to pivot me head 90degrees when driving the aston. i feel i must try a porkie GT2 im going to see if i can squeeze in one so who has had a spin in a Porkie

I have a Porsche itch . . . I've done many many laps in Ted's GT3RS as a passenger, which is a very different experience to the more standard range, but it is in a completely different league to TVR's and I want that driving experience in a less compromised road car.

So I completely understand, the challenge remains keeping the Griffith, it's a very special car and there's only 99 of mine around and I like that exclusivity and uniqueness . . . Porsche doesn't have that, Aston more so.
