Chips Away - Business Franchise - Anyone Own One?

Hi,

Having turned my back on the suits and boots of the corporate world, I am looking to do something different. I am keen to work within the automotive industry and have done some initial research into Chips Away. I have the cash to invest in a franchise, but I am keen to see if there are any fellow PHers with direct experience of being employed by the business. Obviously, Chips Away play heavily on the + points of running a business franchise with them, but I am sure there are a number of downsides too. I have requested a business pack, but in the meantime, if anyone else on PH can provide me with some personal advice/experience it would be much appreciated.

Not seen him posting recently, I seem to remember he was mugged and had some fairly serious injuries. If you look for threads he contributed to you'll see some good info.

It only takes one bad repairer to tarnish the name of the whole franchise, that would worry me, I think I'd rather go it alone.

I used chips away once. Got talking to the man running that franchise and he was thinking of packing in. Apparently generally the population rather put up with a scuff or fix it themself rather than get them in. Got to say I thought they were excellent value for money and would use them again. But I would be weary of the appathy of the general public when taking on a franchise.
Suppose it depends on how expensive a franchise is. Could be worth a punt if they are relatively cheap and you are at a loose end.

quite good - lots of pro's and con's discussed in the whole process.

general thought was you are paying for what is a brand name but if you wanted to it could be done alot cheaper elsewhere...

That along with £15 all in ,budget valeting is cut throat business around here (west yorkshire) the chips away franchisee is undercut by the sprint finish franchisee and they are both undercut by the freelancer in a tatty old kangoo van, who used to be a chips away franchisee !! goodluck.
