Anyone had the benefit of owning both of these? I have the former currently but the onslaught of glitches and problems has worn me down, and the Boxter S looks the most likely culprit for the next motor. Obviously I know build quality, comfort etc. are superior in the Porsche but what about performance? I'm assuming the S is pretty nippy?

Not like the Tuscan it isn't. The S is about 200bhp per tonne...

What you'll like about the S:

Handling, build quality, general reliability, handling, sound above 4Krpm.

What you'll miss about the Tuscan:

Straight line grunt, sound from tickover.

...i had a MY03 boxster s and couldn't fault it and would highly recommend it from every aspect...ownership, handling, reliability, build quality, ease of convertability and badge prestige. The only glitch that i have heard about is an issue with the RMS (rear main seal between the engine and gearbox) failing and leaking fluids. OPC's are pretty good about replacing them though! Now i'm sure there are more failure issues with a TVR!!

The s can't match the TVR for straight line poke but it isn't a slouch, there is plenty there and accompanied by a lovely engine note.

Mainly boils down to the boxter s vs tvr debate. I've been in a boxster s for the last 18 months, having owned cerbera/chimaera x 2 previously. Still loving it! See previous posts in my profile for more details.

Basically the Tuscan has been really fun , but it's just too unreliable; i'm not a big track day fanatic anyway, just want something that can be used daily that's got a bit of poke: any alternatives in the Porsche range to the Box S ?

Thermostat housing? I am suprised I would have thought having a water cooled conversion would add weight and quieten it down, taking away the RS factor.

Probably the thermostat housing for the oil cooler in the badgered front wing

Yes, it is oil thermostat. Although I do know of a GT2 engine that is available for fitment. Just too much hassle getting the evil H20 plumbing into a 964
