I would like to first like to appligise for what is a easy question but i am likely to be in a postion to get a company car if i want one and as the mazda6 mos is so bad on fuel i might get one to join the mazda but roughly how much do you pay a month for say something like a 1,7 ctdi astra and in 6 months i could get a passat or 320d and how much would i pay for that?
i earn 36k if that makes any differance to how much i would pay

Try Here http://cccfcalculator.hmrc.gov.uk/CCF0.aspx

You calculate the taxable benefit based on the list price of the car plus accessories and the CO2 rating % The tax you pay depends on your tax rate 22 or 40%. You pay more tax if you get company supplied fuel (a lot more).

Damn your post is hard to read.

There are calculators about that will yell you what you want to know.

Your taxed at 20% so...

Value of a 320d say roughly £27k

I don't know the emissions of the 320d it will either fall into the 13% or 18% emissions, we will do worse case, so 18% of £27k = £4860

You pay 20% of £4860 = £972... or £81 a month.

If you have a fuel card and dont pay for your private mileage you pay an extra £50 a month. Most companies use all-star or similar which you pay for your own private mileage on in most cases.

sorry i have dislexia quite badly hence my rubbish post. sorry about that.
basicly at the moment i would get a fully paid astra 1.7 cdti estate club and everything paid for including private fuel.
in the next year i would upgrade to a signum 2.0 cdti then 6 months after that im more than likely get a passat 2.0tdi or maybe merc e320 cdi.

il try the calulators and see how i go.
thanks guys

How does that work, then?

You're usually tied into a 3 or 4 year lease on company cars - I know that we have to keep our car until the lease end even if we are promoted.

The Signum is no longer available and never had a 2.0CDTI option.

Have you ever had a company car, or are you making this up as you go along?

Your car will be decided on the grading of your job - some companies allow you to upgrade in exchange for a personal contribution, or downgrade and take extra salary in exchange.

Nobody knows what car you'll get unless they work for your employers.

I know one thing - fuel cards are a waste of money unless you do lots of private mileage every year.

For a 13% CO2 i.e. a 318d you need to do about 8k private miles to break even on the tax (£80 a month as a 40% tax rate)

On comcar link http://www.comcar.co.uk/newcar/companycar/poolresu...

you can check.

Not being funny, but how do you know you're going to get a promotion?

To get your tax bill for the Astra, try:

http://www.comcar.co.uk/

That'll work out the bill for any currently available car.

At 40% yes maybe so but depends on the car, at 20% it's an absolute bargain - especially at the moment. Bear in mind you don't class travelling to/from a single place of work as business mileage.

Take a new 20k P11d value Astra Diesel estate coming in at 13% BIK. At 20% that's £39 a month on fuel and at 40% £78 a month. A 55 litre tank of diesel costs about £75 nowadays for say 450/500 miles of range.

Will it be at 20%?

If he's earning 36k, and then you add the taxable benefit of the car, surely that'll push him into 40% territory no?

Okay, he won't pay the full 40%, but it'll be over 20%

Good point- last did that calculation a good few years ago on a Passat 2.0TDI, worked out I had to do circa 10k private miles / year to break even.

its a time served/ performance permotion. im already at the rank just need to do the time served hence knowing il get premoted.

as for the having to do 10k a year to break even i might as well keep my mazda 6 then as i will loose money selling that too which makes using the car not worth while. i can still spec it but use a milage sheet and tracker and i don't have to pay tax then as its classed as a tool like a van would be..
