My RS4 turned three recently, and my thoughts turned again to whether I should keep it.

It does most things that I want, and does them very well, but I have started to fancy something as fast, but a bit more relaxed in the engine department. Basically, I am finding myself preferring to drive at slightly lower revs, and the Audi doesn't give it's best when driving like this.

I still want comfortable, nice looking, and fun, but what would people suggest? First thing I thought of was an SL65, or a DBS, but what else fits the bill? What is going to take off like a scalded cat from tickover, while still being fun to drive, and with the same sort of general ownership pleasure that my car, or the above, cam give?

May I suggest something like this?

Although it might not really be more relaxed considering it has a V12. But still. Jason Statham drove one in The Transporter.

What about the BMW 355i, turbo engine with a good spread of torque.

How about an Alpina of some sort? They tend to be pretty torquey and relaxed, and they're a little more exclusive than almost any other marque.

I should have added that I want performance at least as good as the Audo. 0-60 in 4.5, and 0-100 in 11 or better.

Some of these choices have "decent" pull from low down, but then give up a bit too early.

The Jag is definitely a good choice though. Any other ideas in that direction?

Which Jag?

Insisting on something as quick off the line as the Audi, is going to discount a lot of F/R cars simply because they lack the traction.

For some reason the 911 turbo never seemed to hit the spot for me. It's likely faster than an SL55, but just didn't seem to give that same shove when you floor it leaving a 30 limit in 3rd.

Sounds like the new M5 is going to be a big of a torque monster too, if you can wait that long.

The XFR mentioned up above.

At the minute, the SL65 seems to tick he right boxes for me, I just wondered if there was anything else with similar figures that I was forgetting (it had 600bhp and 738lb-ft).

I know it's a PH cliche, but a mapped 335d?

Enough torque to pull down buildings, and more than fast enough for real-world driving.

Which have to be worth a look. There was a nice SL up for sale recently, but it went, and now there's only one horrible one.
