100 miles to a tank :yikes:

okay, so i have got my new griff, filled it to the brim,(£60) reset trip ometer to 0.00 went off to enjoy myself, mixture of driving with a few blasts but nothing too serious as conditions not great. and empty tank in 100 miles,
is there something wrong or is this normal!!, no smell of fuel leaking,or petrol anywhere!
now i don't drive a griff and worry about consumsion but this seems a bit extreme, ps its a taraka engine

Err yeah I'd say that's running a little rich Tim... I once managed to empty a tank like that, but that was going full bore around Cadwell Park with a supercharger strapped on!

Check your rear view mirror, do you see a brownish cloud when you floor it? If so, its just running very rich - AFM/throttle pot?

checking the plugs is a good quick tell tale, black then too rich. Sometimes the end cans. Other than that a gas analyser at the MOT station/garage. I would get it checked though. The speed six's do about 25mpg on a run, obviously less if being used properly

Are you sure its not just the gauge. They are reliably unreliable. Fill it up again and see how much it takes.

I averaged 17mpg last weekend

We averaged 12mpg for about the first 3 months of ownership. Think you need to control the lead in your foot a tad. Best not to worry too much.

be careful that the fuel lines are not leaking. Took my car into Taylor TVR, he told me the fuel pipes were leaking - I didn't even smell anything. They were leaking on the exhaust, so definitely something to check...

Check the oil too - if it's used a bit it could well mean it's running too rich - fuel gets down the bores and thins the oil which evaporates. Bore washing they call it

little update, on 101 miles and filled her up again, (another £60) so definateley running rich, checked all fuel lines and thoroughly looked underneath, all in good fettle, also cranked the nitrons back two clicks as it was shortening my spine on our lovely roads. tucked up in the garage till saturday when she is getting a session on the rollers to sort out any issues. looking forward to finding out what power she is putting out!
ps checked oil, all perfect.

Yes I still lust after my old Griff.
It's in the unit next to mine!

Dan (the guy that has bought it) is doing a chassis up restoration on it as we speak.
1994 chassis was blasted back...and was rock solid! (Phew) I told him it was a goodun.
It'll be out again this year, racing, but will be even more hardcore and a different colour. I'm sworn to secrecy...but it is a TVR colour.
