Should i kill my shed?

My daily shed has run out of tax and is £205 to retax it and its MOT is due soon.

I predict a fail on the MOT, spectacular fail.

Current faults which are present some of which maybe MOT failures
Lots of banging from the suspension
The fuel filler has a big hole in the top so it pisses petrol everywhere if you fill the tank more then half
Passenger door mirror gone
Drivers door mirror held on with duct tape
Airbag light on
Noisy wheel bearings
Exhaust heat shield hanging off
Numerous dents
Power steering cooler held together with rubber hose and jubilee clips
Passenger footwell hasn’t been seen for 3 months due to amount of rubbish
Bonnet lock replaced with a old screwdriver permanently stuck in the remains of the lock
Foglights not working
Central locking remote eaten by the dog

An identical model but younger Ford Focus has appeared over the horizon that doesn’t rattle and bang like a skeleton in a tin bath.

The younger car is a 53 plate, has an MOT until November and tax till December. 84,000 miles on the clock, new tyres and a heated front windscreen. The last MOT was don’t by Kwik-Fit and only found a few things like it needed a new water pump despite the water never needs topping up.

The current owners want 2 grand for it and the added bonus is they will deliver it to my door as it’s a friend of the other half who is selling. Which means I don’t have to go car shopping which I hate

I will be keeping the front brake calipers, battery, the wheels and tyres off my current shed as they are new and scrapping the remains

I can just about afford to buy the new shed but i can't be arsed fixing old shed.

So should i kill my much loved shed

Seriously this kind of thing is a decision only you can make, but I would ebay your old shed if I could afford the upgrade/

Its barely run in. Get it fixed up and cleaned up.

Mines on 264,500. Will need its first new clutch soon, but other than that, its probably got another 140,000 miles life in her.....

Assuming you are keeping the bits because they are better than the ones on the new shed, swap them over straight away and then get your shed on to ebay where it'll still fetch a few quid while it has an MOT.

Agreed. Shed buying/running and general banger-nomics only works if you stay emotionally unattached to the car.

Keep it.

Most of those parts can be had from a scrappy for very little.

Instead of changing the bearings which can be a hassle on some cars, you may be able to just replace the hub with one from the scrappy with an OK bearing.

I can't imagine suspension bits will be that expensive.

Airbag light isn't an MOT failure yet.

Nope winter tyres on steel rims are the only wheels current shed has.

Thats what I meant the replacement is to expensive to be classed as a shed, I would class one as under £800 but we all have different limits
