So this would be just off Chiswick High Street circa 1979. In the background the flat where an undefined number of us med. students lived.

My contribution - Hillman Imp 875cc, 3 x alloy wheels, 2 x Cibie Oscars, 1 x streamlined door mirror and a rev counter screwed loosely to the top of the dashboard. The Corbeau seat was only loosely bolted to the subframe but by the time I wedged myself in and buckled up the full harness belt it all felt pretty secure. The engine lid was partially propped open with a screwdriver and a bungee strap because the old Fiat Abarths looked cool like that. The totally standard engine had long since blown so the car just sat there looking a bit deflated. In its heyday it must have produced at least 160bhp and would happily take on a 911 (in my mind).

Any other PH-ers with memories of their student transport ?
