I'm looking for a cable to connect my laptop to an old CRT TV thats got 2 sockets (yellow and white) on the front of it to use as input.

Can I use a cable thats designed to go to a HDTV with it? The HD cable (that has red, blue and green connectors) from our xbox doesn't work and we only get a black and white image.

Now I'm not sure whether I can use this, or if I'll only get a black and white picture using it.

Can anypone shed any light on this for me? I just want to play movies from my laptop on our old CRT TV.

That cable will not work, its a VGA to RGB (component) same as the X-box cable. You need a Scan Converter, this takes a VGA signal and converts to composite video (the yellow phono).

Something like this.
