Hi peeps.

The windscreen washer bottle on my 1989 Series 2 350I seems unable to hold water any more, so does anybody know what car these bottles were from, please?

Or even better, anyone got a spare one they'll swap for beer tokens?

It's this one:

Thanks,

Martin.

Hi Mate..If you have no joy with finding another washer bottle then this stuff is quite handy..I sealed up my expansion tank with it and its good for most things..If its a small leak i have a small amount left that should do it..even if you find another washer bottle fix that one and you will have a spare..Cheers..Mark

Hello mate.

That looks interesting, I might take you up on that, thanks!

I'll see if I can identify where the leak is coming from, it takes a day or so for the bottle to empty itself.

It was a generic Wipac or similar used on many long-defunct products of the British motor industry (itself long-defunct).
You could start with the SD1, Princess, TR7... or Ebay wink

I also have a leak in mine, around where it fits to the bracket.

A top tip I use is to get a tin of evostik and pour some of the liquid glue into the dry washer bottle. Swirl the washer bottle around so the evostik produces a lining and when dry it seals the leak extending the life of your bottle.

No worries. I moved my pump (same style as yours) up to the side of the footwell, near that big rubber grommet where the fuel inejction loom exits the cabin, and put a non-return valve in the washer pipe... that way the water doesn't drain back to the tank and the pump isn't sitting in a puddle of water every time it rains.

Hmm - the pump is there for a reason - despite the non-return valve you put in (actually the pickup was supposed to have one anyway on the end along with the strainer) you might find your pump might airlock. In the TVR original position at least there's a mild siphoning action that helps keep air out of the pipework.

If you're replacing the tank and don't mind not having an original then a better solution would be a tank with a builtin pump or pump pickup near the bottom of the tank, which is a much better design. Ebay should throw up a few...

Take your point but it hasn't done so in the last ten years wink

Capri and Cortina bottles don't look too different. Not sure how size compares.
It's only a plastic bottle when all's said and done...presumably heat-resistant though.

Martin - these guys do a whole heap of parts for kitcar builders and are on the road from Marden to Staplehurst (nice and close!). You might get one from there that will fit with a bit of thought smash

I seem to remember that the washer bottle in my old capri looked a lot like the one in my 390SE.

The TR7 has exactly the same washer bottle. You can still get S/H ones from TR7 specialists eg www.ss-preparations.co.uk
