The son of Equatorial Guinea's dictator of 30 years commissioned plans to build a superyacht costing $380 million, nearly three times what the country spends on health and education each year, a corruption watchdog said Monday.
The statement from Global Witness said that German company Kusch Yachts has been asked to build the yacht, housing a cinema, restaurant, bar and swimming pool, though construction has not yet started.
Global Witness has been urging Washington to institute sanctions against Teodorin Obiang, whose extravagant lifestyle currently includes a $35 million-dollar mansion in Malibu, California, a $33 million jet and a fleet of luxury cars, while earning a salary of $6,799 a month as agriculture minister.
The government press office in Equatorial Guinea confirmed that the president's son had ordered the yacht design, but said he "then dismissed the idea of buying it."

How many of us would leave a life like that if born into that position?
Ok, i would still do the yachts and hookers .. but probably do a bit of charity work and PR on the side.
Actually my quote was fundamental wrong, as he has got morals, they're just fOk, i would still do the yachts and hookers .. but probably do a bit of charity work and PR on the side.
ked up. Indeed, he was brought up by those morals. But the thing is, could you bring yourself to it if you were put in his position right now, knowing well where the money came from? His morals are completely f
ked up, and because of that, he can live his "worry"-free life which would fill any decent person with guilt.ZesPak said:
Life must be great if you have no morals.
Obiang & his government are men of very strong moral values, they care deeply about their people. To assert otherwise is to fail to understand the true situation in Equatorial Guinea. How do I know? Simples, I had his ministers tell me once. It was very difficult to contain the laughter, whilst his men at the oil ministry lectured at us how our price for building his new LNG plant was too high and how we were taking food from the mouths of the people of EG to fund our swanky high rise offices in Houston. b
ks....Obiang built one decent road in the country from the airport to the "capital", just so his son could burn up & down in one of his supercars. The capital would have cholera outbreaks every January / February becaue there was no sanitation, the only source of clean drinking water for the capital would be our plant on site. Thoroughly corrupt & evil regime even by African standards....but a hoot of a place to live & work!! jesusbuiltmycar said:
Anyone know how much the UK gives Equatorial Guinea in aid per annum?
amazzingly the answer looks to be none - see 14.1 here http://www.dfid.gov.uk/About-DFID/Finance-and-perf...however given that most of the oil is controlled by Exxon, Hess, Marathon, Chevron and Devon and Haliburton do much of the work I'm going to guess the US Government give them quite a lot of aid
