Spyder Takes Wiesmann To New Extremes

175mph top speed threatened by V8 powered concept

This is the Spyder, a back-to-basics sportscar from the small German manufacturer that uses the V8 from the current BMW M3.

With a kerbweight said to be under 1,000kg, the 0-62mph time is quoted as taking fewer than four seconds while the top speed should be around 175mph.

The latter could be 'interesting', as without any doors, a windscreen or a roof, the Spyder is by far the most extreme car to come from Wiesmann so far.

The firm is gauging the reaction it garners at the Geneva show before deciding whether to put this potential rocket-ship into production. If they do, don't expect to see it before 2012.

Looks awkward from the side and those exposed rear tyres look a recipe for gravel rash for any following car.

I think the link above may be dodgy. Try Wiesmann's site for more photos: http://www.wiesmann.com/

The link above is fine. It was one from the Alfa 4C thread that did the damage.

Looks interesting enough, still - coupe would be more pratical and prettier.

Is this meant to be for a trackday use then? As in - drive there, enjoy, and drive home

If that had appeared without the badges at a British kit car show, people on here would be queueing up to deride it's styling. But it's German & it's in Geneva, so I guess it must be fantastic. Hmm.
