I obviously need a OBD2 > USB connection, but where can I get software that lets me write to the cars ECU?

Anyone have the names of any software you can use?

Thanks

Depends on the Car/ECU.

For standard ECUs, I know of Nistune which can do many Nissan ECUs. Evoscan can do Mitsi evo engines.

FC Edit can do Apexi Power FC ECUs which were fairly popular on japanese cars.

Fords - Alientech Powergate R, generally considered to be the best Ford stuff available in the UK.

The S is a single shot device, like Bluefin, which means it locks to one car and would need to be unlocked again to do something else.
The R is the reusable one, and it costs a few thousand.

Alternatively, you could solder in a ZIF socket and use a chip programmer to remove and reprogram the chip in an eprommer.

Wouldn't it be safer (and probably cheaper) to use a megasquirt? That way you can retain the stock ECU to put back after you've cocked it up.
