Sat at work browsing the classifieds and this happens...
Discussion
As stated I'm sat on my lunch browsing the classifieds and a workmate deciding to be nosey, pipes up with a comment.
The car I was looking at http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2456032.htm
My workmate Alan pipes up with the comment of "Your seriously not considering buying that. Look at it it's 12 years old done 116,000 miles and they wnat £4750." Now having read the advert I knew I had an argument, the car has very good VAG service history, Last two owners know eachother, looks clean and theres no listed faults. Unfortunately for alan he has lead a sheltered car life and grandad has always helped him out. He payed £3000 for a 1.4 Peugeot 206 last year and well the seller was laughing all the way to the bank. He claimed his was a better buy than the S4 and that because his was newer and had less mileage it was the better car.
I'm no plate buyer nor does mileage on a car phase me. If it has full dealer/specialist history thats a bonus to me and age is but a number. Seeing he was loosing the argument he then began his rant on how any car people own for any repair it has it should go back to the main dealer! (Yet again grandads bank is on his side)Now me I believe this to be wrong, perhaps if I wasn't on an apprentice wage not 19 and if I was driving a ferrari or something then yes dealer repairs etc. all the way. He couldnt get it into his head that a repair at a dealer can cost more than at a normal garage or if you know somebody who knows what they're doing. I just think modern day teenagers like myself are being spoilt too much by mummy and daddy and are having near new/new cars and money is no option.
There's nothing I love more than searching the classifieds for a potential project or soon to be classic and the thought of some finds excite me. I'd just like to know is this me being to old for my age or am I for real.
Rant over!

Looks good to me, if the insurance doesn't cripple you. Only thing I could comment on in the ad is "AS YOU CAN SEE FROM ABOVE THAT THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN BOY RACED," I am 53 but that doesn't stop me thrashing something to within an inch of it's life, when the mood takes me! The difference is that nowadays I can afford the repair bills lol!
He's an absolute tool when it comes to cars! Just how he judges everything that gets to me
I very much doubt he's related to any of us enthusiasts who use a 'trampy' version of the autotrader to look at cars and discuss current events(so he says anyway).
The best bit is we get back today to our halls and he turns to me and says I really want a new car the 206 is s
t! I'll leave him and his french s**t to browse the autotrader ads hoping to find a sucker to buy his shopping trolley and an overpriced chav wagon for him to blow grandads money on.

There's no need to race. I proved my point when I first started work here. I had a mk4 golf 1.4 as a cheap run around until my audi was back on the road. One day super chav in his 206 was trying to show off in his tin can and when he saw me in a 1.8T A3 his face dropped. Its not about speed and who has a better car or reassurance I just wondered if anybody else thought like me.
I've never bothered looking at the S4 before, but looking at how cheap those practical little rockets are has got me all excited.
Probably the wrong thread but I have two questions:-

Probably the wrong thread but I have two questions:-
- Are they good for mid 20's mpg on short commutes?
- What major design flaws/expensive common faults do they have? (I ask this as every car I've looked at has at least one serious flaw that leads to big expense!)

Oh and the boy in the 206 is a tool.
One of my mates on Facebook asked for first car suggestions and the other sheep on his list immediately responded with 206, Clio and Corsa.
I told him he should look at a Focus or something and think at least a little bit out of the box, it's a better car than any of those three and not silly to insure...

arguing about cars with noobs can go two ways
- either its hilarious as they fumble around looking for facts that are made up and talk utter b
ks and eventually they have a hissy fit and walk/storm off
OR
- they turn it into another topic, refuse to give up untill you get frustrated and end up agreeing with them just to shut them up.
OP, i know exactly what you mean. A lot of my friends are into thier cars, so we can usually have a decent banterous conversation, and although we may not always agree, we can mostly see others points of view and opinion. I find it hilarious though when someone clearly knows s
t all about cars and they start loud mouthing about how we know nothing about cars. Especially when they are talking about the vehicle you own.
The best one i had was someone told me the engine in my car WAS 690cc and wasn't prepared to accept he was incorrect. Another one told my that it WAS a motorbike engine. Both incorrect. I kind of found it hilarious though....
