Oil temperature

Afternoon

On my first VTS the oil would equal half way when up to temp and exceed this when thrashing its knackers off

But on the current the temp NEVER exceeds about a third. Any idea as to why ?

Isn't that water temp, not oil temp?

Probably a thermostat failed open.

What temp should it be, according to owners hand-book or similar?

Are the gauges and sensors the same between both cars? Is the oil of a different spec?

Most cars only monitor water temperature. Oil temps will be different and will heat/cool at a different rate.

is it a xsara or saxo?

I know that the later cars came with a different sensor that tended to read lower, but more 'correctly' apparently.

Either way I'd not worry about it at all. The oil temperature is best for 'relative' comparisons, ie 'it's normally here, but now it's much higher - that's bad' not so relevant car to car.

for what it's worth my pug 205 sensor tends to sit at about the same point on the gauge as yours - same sensor and probably similar scale.

Hi it's a Saxo and that's good to know about the 205.

Yes it is definitely oil temperature..

I know it takes longer to warm up but as I say the old VTS which was only a year older and had same engine / spec but different oil would read a lot more "accurate"

Could the Oil itself have anything to do with it ?

Different viscousity oils hold different temps or are you using the same oil for both?

Agreed oil pressure would have been nice !

Each of the 3 205s I've had read differently despite the same oil, although I can't really count the rally car. I pay far more attention to the oil pressure guage for what the engine is doing.

To be honest I don't know what oil is in either, the first one came with a half empty bottle of Fuchs Semi Synth 10w-40, and I intend to get some Fuchs Fully synth 5w-40 for this (as recommended by Opie Oils)

My 206 sits about there too, only rises a bit in hard work situations, and comes back down after you've eased off etc

see thats the thing, in my old VTS I used to see it rise, but in this one I dont :\
