Best car ever made?
Discussion
Best could mean a lot, so in my opinion it wuld end up being a large saloon with lots of power.
You can do anything with it, and still have fun. That would bring it to stuff like E39 M5, Audi RS6, Lotus Carlton or maybe e34 Alpina B10 BiTurbo.
You could go on holiday with it, take the kids to school in it, tow a caravan (or speedboat) and still bring it to a trackday.
They could do everything you'd need from a car, apart from cheap motoring. Some of them could even go up in value over the years.

Alpina B12 would do then. Preferably with the 560bhp Dinan turbo conversion.

On the balance of things (best car ever made is quite broad!), one of these:

2.8 litre petrol six has the perfect blend of power and economy. Refined on the motorway but also pleasing for the enthusiastic driver in the twisties. Practical estate and looks great >10 years down the line.
Some might say the equivalent 530d is a more sensible ownership proposition.

Autocar believed the saloon version to be the best car in the real world ever made at the time.
