Good mix for an external concrete look render

Evening,

I'm after a reasonable mix (cement / sand) to patch after fitting new windows & doors. It looks very much like a concrete ish render and the house is early 60's

So if I have half a bag of ready mix mortor that will do the job just fine??

i was advised to add some pva. i did not and the job was fine.
anybody done this?
