That really is a Classic , very much on the same lines built by Gar Wood ( also American )who raced craft like that in the 1920's and 30's The values of original boats restored to that sort of condition are astronomical , I wonder how much it would cost to build that one ?

I love this shape of boat, but it was really the attention to detail, from a guy building in his barn, that impressed me most.

I need a new tender (flat dory type, cathedral hull, etc.) and was looking for plans to do a self build aluminium one, when I stumbled across it. Would make my efforts look somewhat pathetic!

I would love to do a project like this at some point in my life though....

As for cost, I reckon about £5000 for timber, fretsaws, and abrasives, £18000 for the engine and fitting gear, and about £100000 worth of labour.

Well, ummm....

To be honest, we gave up all thoughts of competition, it was just fun to be out here!

But I still made the best one, although it probably isn't the one you think it'll be. I'll update the thread with pics and videos when I get chance.

In all, they were all a total success, and we learned a lot about toboggan building by just trying out each one to see how it handled. It's strange that all of mine handle completely differently, although one thing in common is that they're all fast!

Not sure where we're planning to go next year (looks like Canada maybe, so no tobogganing, more snowmobiling ), but I have some great ideas for the 'ultimate' toboggan.

I got the plans from Vosper Thornycroft to build one from scratch but got stuck halfway.

However a quick Google Images search found this, which looks like it is how my model was supposed to be completed!
