It takes ages to start my 6.0. Mostly turning the key (following the correct procedure specified in the manual) does absolutely nothing, not even turning the starter motor. After a gazzillion tries, though, something magic happens, and the engine bursts into life.

Anybody else have this issue, or does anyone have a clue what it might be?

What happens when you turn the key? Can you hear a ticking sound? If so, your battery level may be low. A friends Murcie will spin the engine over but wont fire if its low, or in some cases do nothing.

No ticking sound. It is a new battery and I always disconnect it overnight.

More than likely your starter solenoidhas had it!!
No need to replace the whole starter - just the solenoid.

Many thanks. This thread http://www.lamborghini-talk.com/vbforum/f45/turn-k... suggests it is the same as a Ford Transit part. Do you happen to know if that it correct?

i had a similar problem with both the diablo and the murcie
in the diablo it was a relay, took them all out, cleaned them and never had the problem again.
in the murcie, it was a low powered battery, what size and cranking ah is your battery?

try the relays first, easiest and cheapest

My 355 was having a starting issue a few months ago whereby I'd turn the key, and maybe have to wait up to 7-8s before it would start turning over. Had my starter refurbed which sorted it if that's any help

I used to sometimes get this on mine. It usually used to start if I returned to key back to the off position and then tried restarting.
