maintaining imprezas, evo's and skylines
Discussion
okay so as the title suggests im wanted some knowlegde on the above vehicles. i know they are some serious cars, and im really intrested in them esp the evo's. only prob is ive only ever driven n/a engined vehicles including bmw's and vws etc, they dont require much maintenence just a service or 2 a year. these japeneses beasts i beleive require alot more attention, i think you need to service a evo every 4000 miles, but what else does it require????? i aint no expert in cars, so dont know what half the mods are what people add to these cars but i got to admit they excite me, so what sort of maintenance do these cars really require? also why are their so many models in either vehicles, its abit mind boggling to a novice, i.e bmw do a 320 325 330 m3 etcc.. you know where you stand with the models, evos, do 1-10, and lets take evo 8 for example you get fq300 fq320 fq 340 fq380 mr this mr that i mean what the hell are these japs doing lol
any help appreciated, even if its just to take the mick lol

Not 100% on the servicing side of things. But I know that evo's with the AYC on them need the clutch bath fluid used for the hydrolic clutches on the diffs needs changing every 4500 miles.
Also the FQ300, 320, 330, 340, 400 all relate to the BHP produced. FQ300= 310BHP, FQ320 = 320BHP FQ330 = 330BHP FQ340 = 340BHP FQ400= 405 BHP.

Do you want me to give you the www.lmgtfy.com link again! Take heed, it's useful and answers questions so you don't have to keep typing that piss poor spelling and grammar onto this fairly pristine forum! Thanks!
leethr, yeah i assumed the numbers stood for the bhp produced by why on earth would you have 20odd bhp increments, i.e why only 20 bhp difference, bit silly imo, i mean i'd get it if it where a fq300 then a fq350 then say a fq400, but 300, 320, 340, 360, 400 bit silly lol. anyways whats the best would you say ive seen on top gear that the 400 has a really bad turbo lag, and the 320 or 340 seems to do the test lap quicker. i actaully like the evo 6's they are menacing lol wouldnt f
k with one of them

Ask Mitsu on that one. Money making excercise I geuss.
Really does depend on what you want from the car? Everyone of them will set your pants on fire down a B road. But if you want one you can take to the track standard get the more powerfull versions. If your just going to use it on the road. Get the less powerfull versions. You'll still get a satisfying drive and only lose about 10 seconds if that. But you will get slightly better MPG and less Turbo Lag.
A lot of people say the MIVEC (Variable valve timing) on the 9 & 10 isnt particulary great and makes the engines less free reving than the previous generations. You also have a slight choice in Drive trains. From the 7 onwards you have the really fancy AYC unless its an RS version which is more LSD based.
If you want one with more of the Rally Pedigree then buy any up to the 6.
Just take some test drives in different evolutions and specs and see which you like best.
