Just bought a 730 d Sport cannot for the life of me figure out the bluetooth !I tick it in options but cannot find it when search for devices on my i phone 4 !
There is a phone kit and a slot for a sim card.Is it that the bluetooth is for this only ? Or am I doing something wrong ? Any suggestions would be gratefully received !

I think it's the same as in my E63 6. Go to Communication in the iDrive and it will tell you to turn the phones bluetooth on. I think this puts the car into it's "discoverable" mode. Search then. Once it finds it then it prompts for a pin.

Have you read the manual? I had to resort to it the first time.

I just got an E65 and have paired an iPhone4 with it... if you can't get it to work I'll describe the process in detail...

smdmac, what year is your car? 2005 onwards received the full bluetooth option which is a built in bluetooth module that pairs with (almost) any phone. If your car is one of these then the drawer in the centre console will be, well, just an empty drawer and you'll find the housing for the snap in adapter inside the armrest. The pre-2005 models have a built in phone in the drawer which pairs with the car, which is what I think you have. I think if you can get a spare sim card then you can turn off your phone and use the car's phone when you get in. Harry in the 7 Series forum over at bmwland.co.uk is the expert on this.
