Toying with the idea of a nearly new FFRR - perusing autotrader I have seen some that have no gear stick (which I like) and some which still have the gear stick (looks old fashioned now I have seen those without...!)

What isn't so obvious is what the criteria is which seperates the two - I have looked at 2010 and 2011 cars and it seems to vary.

Can anyone cast any light on this confusion?

Cheers

Twas a facelift when they dumped the old gear stick in favour of the Jaguar rotary controller.

Thanks, so the facelift squarer grill update which only happened in 2010 (as far as I can see?) has also had an update to the Jaguar style control?

Yepsie. Also went from the 6-speed to 8-speed gearbox IIRC.

But the key difference is that the rotary selector tells you it has the 4.4 TDV8 rather than the 3.6 TDV8. biggrin

Ah, but it's more complicated that that, I think the 5.0 S/C still has the gearstick, probably still has the old gearbox! I test drove a 4.4 tdv8 and was told about it, I think the new gearbox can't take the power from the S/C.

Aha, that explains everything!

The question is, can I afford the 4.4 diesel.....?

The answer is, no......

So I guess its one with a gear stick then!

Shame they did that - dropping the HSE.... proves very few RRs are used as workhorses any more and that the D4 takes its place there.
