Hi all.

I wonder if someone could give me some quick advice. Im posting on behalf of my mum really. heres the thing. She purchased a 2010 Honda Civic Si about 8 months ago. Payed mostly cash with about 4 grand interest free owing on it. She loves the car, but has kind of fallen out of love with it, due to a paint mishap in the showroom, and some idiots in various car parks who have shown it no respect : )

Now we recieved the Honda magazine today, and they have released a special edition Ti spec, broadly similar to Si, but with a fancy sat nav and BTCC inspired faux splitter and lower kit etc and she really fancies it.

Does anyone know what the score might be of calling the dealer and asking for a swap? The dings etc on the Si have all been sorted by the dealers Body Shop, and its in perfect nick, with 6k miles on it. The price of the 2 cars muct be within £500 either way, I dont see why we cant do a deal, but I was wondering if anyone has ever done such a thing.

Im hoping the only charge will be for the new car reg and the usual, but is there likely to be a penalty in that we get offered a poor price for trade in, or for switching the miniscule finance arrangement between vehicles?

Any advice/experience appreciated

Thanks.

It'll be fine, new cars aren't worth more than used ones or anything like that.

Where are you getting the £500 from? I don't understand why a used car with lower spec and 6k miles on it would only be worth £500 less than the new model?

Am I missing something but you expect to trade in a 8 month old 2010 plate Si with a few thousand miles on the clock for a brand new 2011 plate Ti which has extra options?

Is this trollery?

The Ti isnt a higher spec than the Si. Its identical except for the fancy entertainment system. Well teh exta body kit and wheels are different ofc.
Teh model my mother drives, + the 'Elite Pack' is currently on the honda site for £18990
The Ti is up on the site for £16995

I dont see how my question opened me up for some abuse, but now I know.

Ok and there is an Si without the same pack as my Mums one up for 14k in the classifieds. All teh Sis similar are 14 to 15k.

So ok 500 was ridiculuos but not so far off for you guys to register incredulity like that!

Other than the fact the dealer will be looking for a £3K gross markup on your mums car, so they'll be bidding her £11K

You're right though - your £500 wasnt that far off - you've just missed a '0' at the end of it.

So lets get this straight.

You dont see any spec differences between this....

and this...

Other than the £3700 of extras on it such as the state of the art infotainment system (Complete with 3D graphic touch screen, this comprises satellite navigation with mapping for 44 countries, multi-position receivers for improved signal, traffic alerts, Bluetooth, CD and DVD player, and a USB connection.), the alloys, the BTCC style bodykit, the fact its a fully colour coded limited edition...

and you think your mums car at a year old is worth £500 less??

Of course i see the difference, but as I pointed out at the start, the only really major upgrade and difference is the Pioneer system, and the bodykit. Mayeb I was too quick to ask teh question, since we only jsut saw the car, but with research, I would say It would cost us 2500 or so to swap them.

I dont buy new cars at all, and have no real idea of depreciation over short terms, Im used to decades. But low milage good condition Si Civics, with the Elite pack seem to be going for 14 or 15k as far as I can see. In 1.8 flavour.

I ws way off with £500. Sorry to all who were amazed. £500 to £2k isnt a gigantic leap. There are many cars as overpriced as that that somehow sell on the classifieds here.

Anyway, thanks for those pics! and Ill let you know what they offer us.

Oh and her Si is colour coded as well. And that grille is different, the white plastic is replaced with the same as the splitter grille. Honestly they are both SE spec with embellishments. If you can be bothered, check it out on the Honda site.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

We px'd our 18 month old favi vrs for s new one about five years back after the original was shunted then repaired, came to £1500. To me that makes sense.

In answer to your question, no idea. Could be £5k, could be £2k. Ask the dealer that you normally use, if you can time it so they need one more car for the quarterly bonus you'll be onto a winner

So people do actually bother reading the 'Dream' magazine .. just had a browse and have to say that 'Ti' model looks a bit Halfords .. but whatever floats her boat.

Assuming this isnt a joke, which i am having some trouble believing, your mother would be far better off by paying off the 4k and selling it privately. Then use the revenue + at least 2.5 k to the buy the new one. Tip: Tell your mother that buying a new car and selling it back to the dealer within a year is the equivalent of buggery.

They are on Autotrader with the Elite pack for £14995 so I guess you'll have to take about £2K for the dealer cut which will leave you with about £4K shortfall.

I stand by my £4-£5k estimate. And must be blind cos I can't see any abuse being aimed at the OP.

Please do tell us what you were offered but I suspect you won't too.
