The R26 may have to be sold and I may have to take a company car (as indicated by my Commercial Director)

But which one would replace the R26......well by that I mean - I love its torqeeness, cant stand its rattles...etc. But I need good MPG (based on mileage figures of 20k PA) I need it to help to the monthly contrib. It will compliment the wifes M3 (which is due for change but will be along the same lines), and offer space and MPG

Narrowed it down to this list, add or take away please...

C250 CDI - anyone own one - mpg?, or issues ? ive read about a rattly engine (by that i mean it rattles more than a derv should)
320D
520D
123D

Thoughts?

Am i right in thinking that you will have to make a contribution on some of these?

Go for the car that you find acceptable that will cost you the least amount of cash. After the initial hit of having a new car of my choice i found paying each month for a car I'd never own a real wrench.

I have no real world experience of any of the above, but if I'dd be opting for the Merc. Great looking car and fewer of them on the road than the very common 3- or 5-series.

From your list I'd be pushing for the 520d with the 8-speed cog-swapper. Makes for a great wafty car from a small engine. 123d is tiny but fun, 320d very capable but common (I've just ordered one) and the C250 is certainly a good looking mature machine with just as much refinement as a BM.

Personally, I'd get rid of the 3 and 5 series. Too common, in all senses of the word. Good cars but common. Of course you may like anonymous but one suspects not.

If I could get comfortable in the 123D and the space was OK, I'd have that.

If not comfortable or needed more space then it would be the Merc.

Go and drive a 320d and then do the figures regarding tax, there`s a good reason why it`s a common choice amongst company car drivers.......

the scheme is basically a personal lease backed by the company - so tax isnt the problem, but need to take into account other things....

driven the 320d ED very good, but wanted something different.....but we'll see. thanks

Im hoping not to contribute but may end up - as it basically helps me this end as i owe nothing on either my cars and could do with upgrading the wifes to something zoommy....he he...

I had a similar choice to make. Narrowed it down to. 220 CDi, 320d & an A5 TDi. Almost went for the Audi but decided on the 320 in M Sport coupe form.

They are pretty common but it's a very good car. Decent mpg & handling. Lack of revs takes some getting use to but not all that slow really. Servicing once a year & I'm on 24k now with the original set of tyres.

Out of those I'd take the 123D if it was the coupé. BRILLIANT engine.

I've put 70k on my 318d CC in less than 2 years and it's been absolutely fautless - and it's been given a hard life: 90% of those miles are A & B roads!

My dad's CC is the new 520d, it's huge compared to mine and much more wafty although it is an SE rather than the sport. The looks have grown on me as I thought it was too ballon-like to begin with. Very nice to drive and doesn't feel like it has a small engine for the size of car.

I usually get a 118/120d for a loan car when mines in for a service. Don't like them tbh - much much more cramped inside and materials used inside are a big step down from my 3series (and the current 3series has been out for years) however a colleague had the 123d and wouldn't stop raving about it and from the passenger seat it certainly felt quick.

It may be a case of grass is greener on the other side but i think because I'm surrounded by BMW I do like the look of the c-class sport.

What about the e200/e220?

I'd take the 520d, its the biggest and best equipped and still offers good MPG. C250 CDI would be next best, its a really punchy engine and economy is still quite good, but the entry level C-Class trims are a bit basic you want a Sport. 123d and 320d are by comparison dated, basic and common.... although still good!

As a company car does he really care about how common one is compared to another - especially as they are all very commonly seen cars anyway, none would raise a second glance.

With the fact that comfort is of most importance, the 520d.

I take delivery of a 520dull this next Friday and have also ordered a 123d for one of my account managers, The 520d with the 8 speed box is surprisingly wafty for a diesel and a nice place to while away the miles, the 123d is an impressive alternative to the usual golf TDI's and very quick for what it is.

Go for the 520d for boring comfort or the 123d for a bit of diesel spice.

The sport version comes with amg bits (only for the look) - does it have to be a saloon? Last time my dad was looking there was a goo deal on the e-class coupe which is a fine looking thing
