I love Michelin maps, they're my second favourite type.

To me their most useful single feature is they indicate scenic roads. I have driven many of them in many different countries and will always seek them out when travelling.

Despite some searching over the years I have not been able to determine what exactly constitutes a Michelin scenic road.

Does anyone know?

According to the Via Michelin website - "The route option for scenic roads that may have a touristic interest"

My best guess, probably an ex-trunk road that's been superseded or bypassed by motorway and is thus lightly used and provides better access to tourist destinations, towns, villages etc....
