Help have 335d coupe but v tempted to swap it for Z4m Coupe
Discussion
what to do what to do.... I like the practical application of speed the 335d gives and its ease of use. I hate the ride quality which I would expect if it were a purer sports car such as the Z4m. I more hate the fact that I seem to be doing way less mileage than I though and so mpg is now not a main concern.
There are a group of us in redditch Worcestershire that have some spirited runs to sunday service, wales and Le Mans again this year which the 335d performs well in but at the end of the day does a diesel really cut it at these things.... so it was decided over breakfast I would today go and have a look at some options..... cayman S and Z4m coupe.... found lovely examples of both and the latter is at the same dealer i bought the 335d from (only in Oct!) so they will basically swap it for the Z4m Coupe. I will have lost about £2k on the 335d doing this but figured it would cost me something ...
So PH BMW masses will I regret it?.... will I loose more money (I tend to keep cars about 12 months or so before trying something new)?.... how good are they...
Appreciate your thoughts..... Thanks

I ran a Z4MC for a while, and now run a 335d. The 335d is all the car I want for 95% of the time, but nothing beats the drives I had in the Z4MC the other 5% of the time. I was sad to see the Z4MC go as it was an awesome car, but I don't miss the frequent fuel fill ups!
If you haven't had an M car before, then I'd say go for the Z4MC for a while, I still hanker for mine and still the most fun car I've had (including an Elise 111S)....

Thanks Rich thats the trade off which is killing me.. i could just get new tyres (non run flat) for the 335dc to improve the ride and like you said it does does most things brilliantly but is that enough.... do I need that 5% smile..... arggghhhh If you haven't had an M car before, then I'd say go for the Z4MC for a while, I still hanker for mine and still the most fun car I've had (including an Elise 111S)....
Thanks!
I run Conti Sport Contact 3's on my 335d now (can of foam in the boot) and its helped a lot. I have much more confidence when in the lanes than before, knowing that a pot hole or similar isn't going to throw me across the road.
You also need to consider the running costs of the Z4MC too, its about double that of the 335d in terms of servicing, warranty etc. If you are doing a low enough number of miles for the fuel costs not to be such a problem, then I'd suggest going for it, even for a short amount of time. Z4MC's seem to be holding their value well at the moment, so running one for a year isn't going to loose you much in terms of depreciation.
I'd go back to a Z4MC like a shot if it wasn't illegal to put babies in the boot. My solution is an early 997 Carrera later this year, by which time I hope they dip below £25k..

I'm looking at 335d's after changing my Z4M Roadster for a 320d auto coupe !
I have to say I don't miss the Z4M R one bit ... though the 320d is too slow for me ....
The Z4M ride was fine to me ... but the gearchange was awful ... and I have had many cars ! I tried 3 so know it wasn't my car ... but I couldn't put up with it.
I would think carefully ... and try - but if intending to use the car around town at all then try it in traffic first. On the open road the Z4M was superb though and the gearbox is fine when pushing on. Nice noise and creamy smooth linear acceleration to 7800
