Engine colour schemes

I've been coming over all Laurence Llewleyn Bowen - trying to colour co-ordinate my engine before it gets refitted next week

Being useless at this sort of thing I thought I would consult you lot. Since you all own S's, you obviously have no end of style and taste !

I've painted the block silk black and the ancillaries will be silver or gunmetal grey. It's the rocker covers that I can't decide on. I've got an old pair which I've mocked up black/red. Does this work ? The chassis is red and the body is dark blue/black.

Once I've decided I'll get my other set powder coated

Red and black looks good, but for me I'd go silver instead of the red.

As always with these things its all a matter of what YOU like the most, its your pride and joy after all.

How about gold? Might look pretty cool with that black carbon fibre plenum.

Needs to be a colour I think to contrast with all the black and silver. Mine are red but my plenum is too.

Gold & black worked well for the old JPS Lotus.

If you are using stainless manifolds they go a dull gold colour once thay have done a few miles so with a gold inlet manifold as well as rocker covers set off by the black block and plenum it could look stunning. On the onther hand of course it could look a dogs dinner.

I do like JPS colours but not sure gold would work. There is a lot of silver around so it may be too much. I was going for purposeful rather than flashy. Think TVR-Stu and barkychoc are both right. May look at a dark blue cover with the detail picked out in silver. I've gone off the red overnight but the missus likes it.

I'm usually pretty decisive but when it comes to colours I'm lost

I went blue/silver with mine (maybe slightly overboard on the blue though )

I’ve seen Jaye’s in the metal and it does look really nice. IMHO though, blue is synonymous with Ford, that's just me though. My body colour is dark grey and the chassis is red so I took the easy way out with all metal work in silver with black hoses. What is your body/chassis colour? If it were me I’d want to show off that drop dead gorgeous plenum.

How about all black then with silver fittings and stainless hose clips? Black is the new blue!

I think silver and black are always in fashion, and won't clash against any other coloured bits you have around the engine bay. Consider just shining it up and lacquering it?

I like the red on black rocker covers, good contrast with the red chassis..... if the chassis is still red.
Polished ally and black for me... and the red chassis.

Details for the AFM hoses (all approximate) as follows:

3 x Silicon Hose 45 degree bend - internal diameter ('ID') is 60mm
1 x Silicon Hose straight - internal diameter ('ID') is 60mm

1 x stainless tube straight - external diameter ('OD') is 60mm (I think the internal diameter ('ID') is 57mm). This is the top 'hose section' cut to approximately 130mm length.

1 x stainless tube straight - external diameter ('OD') is 60mm (I think the internal diameter ('ID') is 57mm). This is the bottom 'hose section' cut to approximately 220mm.

All bits are avaliable via ebay or other type places.

I'd love to do away with those big black ugly "fresh-fly" intake hoses that stretch from the front of the bonnet to the dash airducts... A little while back someone fitted Freelander intakes just above the wheel arches and they looked neat but there was a question about airflow and fumes/dirt ingress... I cant remember who did this now, but did it work? have you changed back or are you a convert ?

I dont think I want to get rid of them enough to start cutting holes in the bonnet or wings though

It was Joe (v8s4me) who did this - he didn't seem to have any problems with the revised airflow when we went to the Alps (and the weather was pretty bad in places - wind, snow, rain, etc.).

Although the revision of this airflow was for the airflow vents to the interior, not from the AFM.

Although the revision of this airflow was for the airflow vents to the interior, not from the AFM.

Hence the "Fresh-Fly" reference...

It would be interesting to hear your experiences Joe, have you changed the setup since doing it? what works, what doesnt ? what would you different ?

It was so neat, if there are no or few downsides I think I will follow your lead...
