You know, those ones with the red x and the flashing lights? Please don't be a muppet (especially the guy in the black hatchback this morning on the M60.)

I was with the family on the M60 this morning when I saw a ripple of brake lights ahead with a few vehicles heading fairly quickly onto the hard shoulder. Coming onto the scene (probably within 1 minute of the impact) I pulled onto the hard shoulder and saw two cars with several people walking in the central reservation - lanes 2 and 3 were blocked by two cars - one with heavy frontal damage and a large debris field.

I made sure my car was safe and went across to see if I could offer any help. Came across a guy who had been either ejected from the car (or had exited and had been hit), and had been thrown across the central reservation and was lying face down in lane 3 of the opposite carriageway. Traffic was crawling past on this carriageway, and people were on the phone calling the emergency services. The guy lying face down was complaining of severe back and neck pain amongst several other injuries. Myself and another nurse from the Manchester Children's Hospital (sorry, I never got your name) helped me to immobilise his C-spine.

Cutting a long story short we are with a casualty in lane 3 of a live motorway - an HGV driver (Littlewoods I think, but ex-ambulance driver) attempted to pull across lanes 2 and 3 to protect us, (by this time there were red x's on the overhead matrix) - a complete bellend in a small black hatchback tries to cut in between the HGV and the central reservation - do I jump? do I pull the casualty? I honestly thought I was going to be totalled with the wife and kids watching from the other carriageway. As it was, he sped across into lane 1 and carried on. Can I send him the bill for a deep kecks clean?

Not sure what I meant to get from this, maybe catharsis, maybe a bit too much Cab Sauv, but if you see that red x, please think, please slow down.

SD.

ps - hope everyone is OK from the accident, should I have left my name with the BiB, they didn't seem to want it when I told them I hadn't seen the actual incident?

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are. Given a non normal driving situation a severe amount of ignorance is often displayed.

I mean have you ever witnessed the sheer stupidity of people when they see an emergency vehicle trying to get through a line of traffic?

rolleyes

Not a nice situation for you to be caught up in!!
