Inlet manifold + plenum query
Discussion
Have just aquired a V8D ported manifold, 48mm trumpets and plenum with 70mm throttle body. Apparently it was previously used with a flapper system as oppossed to my hot wire kit. Question is can I fit it, do I need to change the afm or is it no use to me!? Hoping to put it on a 500HC serp.
Thanks

The flapper AFM itself is neither use or ornament with a hotwire ECU, which seemed a rather odd question to pose so I can only assume you were referring to the plenum, trumpet base & manifold.
There are lots of changes to pipework (air & coolant) so not exactly a bolt on replacement. I'm not sure if it would be wise to be tackled without a reasonable level of expertise with the induction, cooling & crankcase ventilation systems on the cars (donor & target), which on face value of your posting would seem to be risky?. Far be it from me to deter you from getting your hands dirty and learning, just don't expect it to be straightforward & hassle free

Hi Spend and thanks for the response. Just to clarify the kit I have bought ie manifold, plenum etc was previously used with a flapper system and I have hotwire on mine so pressumably not a straight forward bolt on!! The issue is if I go down the route of say megasquirt and ditch the afm will it work or am I taking on more than simply "handy with spanners" will allow.
To use a flapper spec inlet manifold you would need to have the injector pockets machined and the water outlet to heater system might be different depending on vintage of your hotwire, trumpet base can be modified by blanking the 5/8" breather. Plenum might have the early obsolete potentiometer and cold start valve and cold start injector holes would need blanking, Best bet unless you can do these yourself is to sell them and have you own parts modified to suite.

I may have this quite wrong but is it not the case that the flapper type trumpet base was slightly bigger and is the one used as the basis for the ACT triple plenum kit. Plainly Tim is the man to answer that one. Perhaps what you have is a “flapper trumpet base and a later manifold.
Hi Steve, no all the rover trumpet bases were the same size flapper and hotwire, except the rare group A and specially cast triple base which are wider as you suggest.Tim
