IRA shoot at police patrol and thankfully didnt hit them. Thankfully all the terrorists are gone,or Muslim all thanks to Tony blair!

I only put this up (noone really cares) to ask what would the reaction be to this in London or another major UK city or if it had been islamic terrorists? Same reaction or not?

If they were to be "Islamic Extremeists" then current gubberment would be on the phone to Barrack Obomber, and be discussing whether they was any benefit (oil (iraq, iran), gas, heroin (afghanistan), cannabis (northern Pakistan) of invading the "Islamic Extremeists" mother land/ land of origins.

So long as the IRA and all their splinter groups keep their actions to within Northern Ireland then I don't think the national press really care. Quite sad really.

I don't think they will ever be completely eliminiated. The aim should be to keep their activity surpressed as much as possible and not to create an atmosphere where they find ready recruits.

Do you think this was a deliberate part of the 'peace process'? i.e. pressure was put on editors to act in a way which would not rile or inflame the situation? I know most of the attacks over the past 5 years have been 'minor' (small explosive devices which rarely do any damage etc) however I'm always surprised at the lack of coverage the press gives these incidents.

Partly. But after 30 odd years, boredom with the carry on in NI probably had something to do with it.

They are much more likely to publish stories of bizarre sex scandals, murders or frauds from NI - and refreshing it is too.

Funny, I remember fighting in Kosovo in May 1999. Don't recall seeing too much oil there. Sierra Leone wasn't awash with oil, either.

The west fighting "Christians" to save Muslims. That is never mentioned in all of these type debates is it? That always gives me pause.

And what? So what's the deal if he has used a capital letter for Pakistan?

First of all the shooting was not in England. It was overseas. Plenty of terrorist attacks in Pakistan at the moment. Nobody in the west bats an eyelid.

If this IRA thing happened in London then the reaction would be distrust and abuse at the Irish community. Their religion would not be questioned though.

Why would their religion not be questioned? It used to be! Catholics in England got a rough ride. Why point out it wasnt in England? What does that matter really, 2 miles into Scotland or Wales wouldnt make that much difference would it really?

I definately think its a deliberate effort to suppress news. "Minor" attacks such as murdering soldiers, blowing off policemens legs, shooting a policeman in the face with a shotgun when he was picking his kid up from school...

As an aside, arms find, explosives and ammunition found the other day too, about 8 lines on the BBC news website and not even reported on the radio news here.

Unfortunately, the anger is still there, the hatred of protestants is still there and there are plenty of disaffected youths on both sides that seek to prove themselves by fighting and bring abck the "good old days" that they got told about. When there are so many out of work in poor areas on both sides, well, I see trouble ahead.

Point taken - the 'minor' comment was in bad taste.

Hardly bad taste, the sad thing is that compared to 20 years ago they are minor. I just dont know what it will take before things get reported properly. Probably a bomb on the mainland.

Which is all the Westminster Government cares about.
Having seen decades of "The Troubles", albeit from the mainland, I've often wondered why the Westminster Government hasn't said to the Republic, "It's yours".
With, the Westminster Government paying market valuation for all fixed assets and a "resettlement allowance" of £1 million to all Unionists over 18 who would want to relocate to the mainland.
It'd have been far cheaper in the long run.
I'm going to get shot down in flames, aren't I?
