It's the DVD nav that's the same as in the E46 BMW. I upgraded the software on ours so that we have perspective view (like a TomTom) but the disc is still a 2004 version. I suspect that it could benefit from a later disc, but they're about £200 from BMW/MINI. Of course, you can purchase a "backup" copy from ebay and other sites

How did you do the upgrade on the software? - We have an 55 plate with DVD nav and would love to do this......

OP - Yours will be pre-dvd nav so you would need to change the drive under your seat im afraid. Then, like us you can stick the latest 2010 disk in it smile

I just downloaded the software from megaupload or one of the other bit torrent sites. I'm sure that the OP's nav will be the DVD based Mk4 as this was around from September 2002.

Matt I am running a R53 from the same time and it has a CD sat nav, not DVD. I got an update disk from Navteq for £70 a couple of years back. Unfortunately it doesn't look like you can upgrade to perspective view or access all the other useful features on the disk like places of interest/petrol stations, unless someone knows a crack I am not aware of.

If you have the CD based nav you can't have perspective view I'm afraid. It's only available on the DVD nav. Our 04 plate Cooper has the DVD based nav. I assumed that the DVD based nav would be available from later 2002 or early 2003 as the BMW group changed to the DVD based nav in 2002.
