The sills on my car were replaced just before i bought it by the previous owner. However the painting that was done on them doesn't seem to have been done too well as it is all flaking off and leaving nice surface rust, which isn't what i want!

What should i be using to get rid of the rust and then paint over them with?

Last time i had this problem i used sander to get rid of as much loose rust as possible, put some kurust on and once that had set i put underbody seal on. Is this the right thing to do?

I just wire brushed all the rust off and painted over with hammerite on mine. Seems to have done the trick. Keeping the underbody waxoyled is a good idea too.

You might want to ask the MX5Restorer (theres a few threads on his work in ths forum) who does this for a living.

Noticed that the paint had come off mine yesterday so seeing as it was nice I rubbed away all the surface rust, applied some Kurust then repainted them with black Hammerite. Think that should do the trick.

When painting though be careful not to paint your drain holes shut!!
