After a few hard driving applications the brakes are starting to make a loud "grumbling" noise. Does any one else have this, I had them checked during a recent
service & the OPC said they were fine. Any idea's from fellow TTer's or C4S owners.

Grant I have the big reds on mine, after a track day or aggresive application I have had unpleasant brake noises. The pads & discs look fine.
I have cured this in the past by lightly rubbing the discs & pads with emery paper in case they are glazed.
Always a good idea to clear the holes in the discs with a twist drill to make sure all hardened brake pad deposits are cleared fom the disc.

Cheers Paul, funnily enough I have had the brakes drilled as part of the service because I thought heat build up may have been the cause, but they still grumble like a good un.
Thanks for the idea of trying emery paper, if I give the discs a go with this can I damage them in any way ? I have to confess to not being very good when it comes to the practical DIY stuff & knowing my luck I will probably wear a groove in the disc ??!

Loan me your car for 30 minutes. I have a lot of experience in "sorting" 996tt brakes.

Go to a diy store and buy the finest grade emery paper they have,,emery not sand paper as it is for use on metals..
Just gently rub the surface of the disc (both sides) you will not harm it, but will just make it go a little dull compared to the normal mirror finish. To be honest I also do the pads at the same time,,takes about 1/2 an hour all in. Unless you are confident I wouldn't suggest getting the pads out and back...probably ok but better to stop with a noise than not at all

Grant,

This has happened to me after track days too. It does go away after a while so I think it's just a case of living with it for a while.

Cheers

Not something I've noticed on mine. They do lack initial bite/feel till you get some heat in them.

...might just be some pad build up on the surface of the disc, the suggestion of buffing the surface could sort this. Could also try finding some empty roads and performing repeated heavy braking or driving with the left foot applying the brakes to generate heat to scrub the build up.

Very rarely get warped discs usually just a build up problem. If no joy could get the discs skimmed.

Hope you get it sorted my friend

Thanks for the input guy's, much appreciated. the noise in itself doesn't worry me it's just the potential loss of stopping power.

DAZ... I want them improving NOT WRECKING !!

ROB.. Good to hear from you, thought you would be onto a DB9 by now (tempting) from what you have said I must be doing my track days on road !

PAUL.. I'll give the emery paper a bash, but if the discs drop off whats the legal position on internet advice, seriously I have faith in you, it's my DIY I'm worried about !!??
