Is there really any point modding the E60 / E61 M5?

Ive known for a while that the V10M5 isnt easy to improve and after watching this i think im firmly sticking with standard power. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSKj6ascRpc

Thre are good mods out there, M5Mark has spent god knows how much trying to make headway, and although he has some decent gains i still ask myself 'is it worth the expense'? This isnt a tubocharged engine so simple mapping wont give you much, unlike the Audi range. Exhausts, filters, mapping etc only seems to give you a handfull of extra ponies. Whats the point?

Your thoughts...........

If the car feels slow to you personally (i dont know what planet you would be from if this was the case =) then yes. If your wanting to get something that no one else has done before then yes. Otherwise i dont see the point.
The V10 is so highly tunned i suppose the next big gains are to come in the way of forced induction.

There are some good remaps coming onto the market, but really the setup is so well sorted from the factory its not worth messing with. Also the V10 sounds so good even standard I think the aftermarket systems sound plain daft and can upset the fuelling and emmisions due to changes in back pressure ect.

The only mod I would do is a 4 wheel stoptech brake kit just to have the ultimate in stopping power.

Head to ESS in Norway when they finally launch their supercharger kit. Meant to come in at roughly the same price as a remap, headers, full exhaust and weekend away in the Cotswolds. Launches May 14th at Bimmerfest. Look what they have done on the V8 M3 on youtube.

Fair one. Still a good wedge of cash though. Standard M5 is more than quick enough for me.

I agree with Eddie!!

The standard M5 is just great as it is, especially for road use.

The thing with modding, that I learned from my Evo days, is that you're never really satisfied.....there's always something more or better to do, so on and on it goes.

If you can trust yourself to do one or two quality mods (eg DMS upgrade), then maybe...

I must confess to really wanting one of these for my next car, and it would remain 100% as standard apart from a more vocal screaming piece of stainless as an exhaust.
