I was up in South Kensington this weekend so decided to pop my head into Lamborghini London whilst on my way to having my usual perv around Cars International. And I have to say I was a little shocked. A number of Gallardo's were on display including a Bi-Colour and a Superleggera. What got me were the prices. The SL was up for over £205,000 and the BC for over £194,000 yikes

My question is this, who are buying these cars at the moment? The 458 if you were on the list is about the £200k for a well speced example and the MP4-12C about the same. Both of these cars are now showing up how old the Gallardo is and how far it is behind the curve from a performance point of view. And let’s not forget the LP700 at £247K is not that far away.

Now I know the Gallardo will always have its fans but do customers currently exist for the Gallardo's at this price point?

I would be very keen to hear from LamboBrum on this.

I think the Lambos are all off to the middle east. I await someone with some stats to come along and tell me why my next purchase is moving further away......

We are ahead of our Quarter 1 unit target already, with customer orders in the bank for Bicolore, Performante, Superleggera in Q2.

And every single one going to a UK home!

What you have to bear in mind is that the numbers for Lamborghini are TINY, always have been. The entire UK was worth 120 new units in 2009 and very similar in 2010 IIRC.

That said, the Bicolore @ £195K sounds a touch rich...

Don't dealers have to sell Gallardos to get any Aventadors?

So they go to the dealer's house before they get exported to Asia?

So are you saying that the buyers of these cars would not even consider the 458 or the MP4-12C?

Also with so few cars sold in the UK what kind of allocation of the LP700's are you expecting this year for the whole country and where do you see the market for "NEW" Gallardo's going in the next year or so with no viable replacement in the offering?

One last question, for a dealer such as Lamborghini London that does not sell any other make of car do they rely on new car/used car sales of servicing to keep them afloat? I suspect their premises don’t come cheap

Thanks for your feedback by the way; it’s always nice to have the expert’s viewpoint

Lamborghini Reading and Lamborghini Sevenoaks are part of the Jardine group

... no Lamborghini concessionaire / franchise in the UK has ever been a truly independent, solus Lamborghini enterprise ever, as far as I'm aware.

The last concessionaire before Lamborghini London was Lamborghini Great Britain who were based in the Porsche premises just off the M4 in Reading and Park Lane and which was a franchise owned by Porsche GB / AFN Limited. This defunct franchise is not linked with Jardine group's Lamborghini Reading!

In theory, Lamborghini Great Britain still owes me some money for the ultra glossy Diablo brochure I designed for them in 1998 though I'm not holding my breath for the final payment ...

Every new Lambo we have sold and delivered in 2011 has gone to an end user in the UK. Every pipeline customer sold order we have is to an end user in the UK. End of.

Perhaps they still want to be different? There are a million reasons for buying a car, each to their own I guess, and long may it continue!

As requested earlier, yes our allocations for Aventador are connected to our Gallardo allocations. Gallardo has plenty of life left, I feel. I can't predict the future but I feel very positive about Gallardo in 2011 based on the story so far.

I can't talk for other dealers but we are welded to a Bentley dealer and yes, the service operations go a long way to paying the way. The aim for any car business with a service facility is for the workshop to absorb 100% of the costs of running the entire business. The sales operations then provide the 'cream'. Ha!!!

You'd be amazed at how marginal our businesses can be. Yes we deal in big numbers, but the profits are relatively small compared to the turnover and risk.

I know that didn't happen in 2010 so are UK dealers now prevented from supplying exporters? Would you refuse to supply an exporter if they wanted to purchase gallardo units assuming you were allowed to supply?

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.

As for the Gallardo customer I suppose if you want one you want one.

I think the Supercar market is maturing to a point where ultimate performance numbers are not the be all and end all. I would not expect a 458 customer to drop his order just because the MP4-12C is faster for instance. Real world performance between all these cars is so close now that a £200K car is a quick as a £million car.

But there must be a certain percentage of the supercar buying fraternity who will always upgrade to the latest thing. Do these guys skew the market in any way or are the numbers just too small to count?

how can a dealer possibly avoid selling a car to an "exporter" ?
if i/my company buy/s a car and exports it, that's my/my company's business

UK dealers have a dealer agreement to supply cars within their market area, and not outside. We do not knowingly supply for export although I do know that cars we have supplied in the UK have made their way overseas in the past. This is very difficult to prevent but as I personally know every one of the customers who have taken delivery / placed an order in 2011 I know they are going to the end user.

If we WERE allowed to supply for export then why on earth would we refuse? That would be commercial suicide!

Anyway I've had enough grilling for one night. I don't work Sundays!

Hi all

Well I've just bought the new LP 560 Bicolore and was in geneva courtesy of Lambo London to view for the first time and to also see the amazing new Aventador!

Had a great time at the show and also had a lovely time chatting with Mr Pagani and can't wait to take up his invite to visit the factory in Modena this summer!

Back on topic, i did have a choice between placing a deposit on the mclaren or the 458 but neither floated my boat for various reasons!

The mclaren looks too dull and the 458 although stunning in places leaves me cold on the front end styling. Not a pretty sight!

Supercar buying is not all about the performance figures and press reviews, it's about how they make you feel and how you feel about them!

I know Lambo London are doing well despite the recent release of these new 'superior' cars. I was told a gallardo replacement is due in 2013 and that will be a hell of a car! Until then i will satisfy myself with what I think is the most stunning sub 200k car currently on the market!

That's just your opinion and I couldn't disagree more. But congrats on the purchase, enjoy the Lambo!

Hi Doc, thanks for coming onto this thread as you are the guy I was asking about in the original question. It would be interesting to know how many guys like you exist because if the Gallardo is not due for replacement until 2013 would someone like you still be willing to invest in a new Gallardo in two years time?

By that time I expect we will have an upgraded 458 and possibly an upgraded MP4-12C as well as a replacement for the R8 which if rumours are to be believed is likely to make even more of a nuisance of itself to the establishment.

LamboBrum, if the new Gallardo is two years away what would you expect Lamborghini to do with the Gallardo to keep it in the news until the replacement arrives?

Old it maybe but I suspect the Gallardo is more of an event to take out occassionally than the 458 or McLaren and to a large extent the performance argument is redundant as I doubt many people can access a fraction of the Gallardo's performance on the road let alone the additional performance provided by the 458 amd McLaren.

Hats off to people that are still buying them simply beacause they like them as opposed to getting a 458 in the 'right' spec so it wont lose to much money.

I must say your responses are both refreshingly honest and sensibly thought through. Great that you are prepared to respond. I never thought I would be writing to defend dealers but the barbed comments regarding exported models do seem a little biased against the dealers. You guys are there to make a profit. You take risk and invest in premises etc so we can buy cars from you. If we don't then eventually you go under (e.g Bristol). These are the facts of life. As previously stated the buying public are a fickle lot and buy with our hearts as much as our heads. I was contemplating the new McLaren and 458 but neither did it for me and I purchased a 560-4 last year. I know the others are "better cars" on paper but I still prefer the Gallardo. I am sure there are others that Gallardos do not do it for and they will prefer other marques. Variety is the spice of life!!

"You guys are there to make a profit"

I think sometimes its easy to forget this, I know I do when putting bids in on cars, or expecting the world from a trade in value. Not cheap to keep a Lambo showroom and staff I am sure.

1 hour and counting until I hand over the keys of my Gallardo to its new owner, sun is out and I am regretting already haha!
