I have an itch to scratch and I think the above car is the solution. Classifieds seem to say I can pick one up from around 2004 for about £10k. Mileage at this age and price will hover between 80 and 120k.
Anyone own or owned one and can give a realistic opinion on using them daily? The literature points out it will do 28 and 34mpg urban and extra but is this realistic?
What are the extras to look out for and equally what are the pit falls? I'd also not rule out the touring version.
David.

My friends just bought one. A 2003 auto, with 109000 miles on for around £10k. It has a superchips remap, and he averages 42mpg every weekend on his 300 mile journey from North Yorks to Portsmouth. He has already done 5000 trouble free miles, its very well fitted out and pulls like a train.
Go for it

I had that excact spec car in black a couple of years back now,one of the worst purchases ever.
It was faultless for a few months then the flood gates opened,
in two years or there abouts it had a new engine, turbo, injectors, glowplugs, both injection pumps, pas pump, radiator and water pump, harmonic balancer, various sensors and modules, inner and outer rack ends and one rear caliper.
thats just off the top of my head, all from a well maintained (judging by the service history) car.
A shame really as it was superb to drive, prehaps it could have done with being a bit less firm but thats just personal taste.
But to be fair I know a couple of other owners with these and apart from one needing new injectors and a turbo at 80k-ish they have been good.
