Former Labour candidate on telly
Discussion
On Politics Show (BBC)John Cowan was interviewed, the prog' mentioned that John had made some 'inappropriate' comments on a public internet forum, blah blah blah. Interestingly, the Labour Party did not put enough resource into their election campaign and admitted as much. Now we have rather larger guns to the East Anglia Region in the form of Ed Balls to promote the Labour Party.
That they didn’t spend any time or thought on the seat racistdud007 was standing for, was rather obvious, otherwise they wouldn’t have allowed racistdud007 to stand in the first place!
Doesn’t say much for a political party, when they can’t be bothered to check that the candidates details are correct on their declaration form

Was that honestly and truly the case though? I wasn't around in here when all the fuss got kicked up and don't wish to re-open, but was it really that bad, without going into any detail. Guess a simple yes or no.Doesn’t say much for a political party, when they can’t be bothered to check that the candidates details are correct on their declaration form

IIRC he was originally a Lib Dem MP but got kicked out for being inappropriate, so then he stood as a Labour MP. I think this was after the Conservatives said 'No thanks'. ETA: Here you go: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/election/article-1...

During Labour's candidate selection process, Mr Cowan was asked whether anything in his past could embarrass the Labour party.
He replied that he did not believe it could, because, he said, he did not consider his actions to be embarrassing.
After his departure from the Lib Dems, he considered joining the Tories before choosing Labour.
Now there's someone who stands firm in what they believe in..... "I'm a liberal.... no.. wait... i'm conservative.... no no.... i mean a lefty! Yes, that's it!!"He replied that he did not believe it could, because, he said, he did not consider his actions to be embarrassing.

John was notorious for popping up on threads and posting "facts" that were simply made up a good example being his insistence that the conservatives in the early 90's would only sell council housing to Caucasians, something that is incorrect and not even worth arguing about.
As with many things on here, once his candidate disclosure form was made public, it was analysed and the facts checked.
Candidate form stated that he was the owner / MD of a sport marketing company, companies’ house, D&B and yell couldn’t turn up a single formal reference to this company
Candidate form stated that he was a director of spirit racing ltd (something he referenced on here and on his myfacebookspace page) again companies house, D&B etc. said no . . . . . something that was later confirmed by the real owner of spirit

The only trace of any employment anybody found was a reference on a website, stating that he worked part time for a charity, the charity specialised in helping people with learning difficulties find employment, by giving them work experience . . . . . . . . . Please draw your own conclusion.
He also stated on here that he paid his cleaner in cash to allow her to commit benefit fraud . . . . . . . can’t be sure how true it is as he lives at his mother’s house (also shares her car etc.) and its unlikely that A: he has a cleaner B: he would be the person who paid a cleaner in that household
In the end it was simply agreed that he was obviously in need of help and that as he ceased to post on here, we shouldn’t potentially compound his mental issues further and simply drop the matter
Irrespective of whether his political leanings were Red, Blue, yellow, Green or purple with polka dots and pink stripes, there was a failure in the screening process that allowed him to stand for any mainstream party.
That it was allowed by labour is a rather damning statement on their lack of attention to detail and commitment to none core labour voting areas of the UK. . . . .that IIRC 5000 or so people voted for him (his name was still on the ballot, even though he'd been booted out of labour by that point) is proof if there was ever any need, that the old "they'd vote for a pig if you put a rosette on it" saying is still valid.

Still no-one of consequence, after all, he is only a Labour MP and therefore doesn't really stand for much.
I would not be so complacent as to dismiss his relevance so lightly, although clearly you do not support Labour. The fact that I was pointing to is that Ed Balls will be flag-shipping the area personally and whether we agree with Labour or not, he will be getting plenty of 'air time'. If I was a Conservative candidate for the next election I would already be sorting my box of tools ready for the canvassing, it will be interesting. For those that missed it! It is on the iPlayer

I thought the Labour Party threw him out? They lost because they picked stupid candidates like John Cowan and the publicity he got in all the papers!

7 - Take that, the working class
One Labour candidate who didn't even make it through the general election campaign was Cambridgeshire South East's John Cowan, a 35-year-old whose 'offensive remarks' cost him the chance of becoming an MP. For starters, he said he would not be happy if his future son or daughter wanted to "date a Muslim". He then admitted a strong sexual appetite, preferring "one [woman] for each day of the week". And then there were his comments about British working class women. Cowan, not the most effective purveyor of the English language, wrote: "Whats is it with Working class English Women for a start most of them are not very attractive and all they seem to be interested in is ripping of nice gents like myself whilst getting ****** and ******* factory workers." Hmmm. At least he was unrepentant, telling the Telegraph newspaper: "I post what I think. I think to be honest there is a level of transparency there that isn't normally associated with many people in politics." Labour's share of the vote plummeted by 13.3%. Perhaps the problem was that voters just didn't like him.

No, think he was a little busy with other matters. But my main point was that the Region is now targeted by Labour as an strategically important seat. Ed Balls was apparently born in Norwich, this didn't seem to count for much at the last Election though!
He is probably looking for somewhere different to run in the next election after the last one being so close.boxedoffroader said:

I'd say Unrepentant should talk to a lawyer regards this defamation. http://www.politics.co.uk/features/opinion-former-...

How far into the programme was it? I had a scan through it on the iPlayer but cannot find the interview.
Perhaps there was confusion at the end when Jon Sopel said, "now he's a pariah with appalling dress sense who nobody wants to have anything to do with" - you do realise he was talking about John Galliano and not John Cowan?
