BMW 330CI AUITOBOX QUESTIONS

I have a 2001 330ci auto, with 144k
Firslty a question about the gearbox, is the box supposed to “lock up” like a manual, e.g. when taking my foot off the accelerator the revs drop right back, whereas a manual doesn’t do this. Is it correct to do this?
Secondly , my finger flicked off the key when I started it yesterday, but it just flicked into life and engine started, so didn’t think anything off it, But It felt odd and not really driving properly, then after about 5 mins cut out.
Started it again the usually way, it felt fine and is all ok and now seems fine
