Set up and installed a pebble pool water feature in the garden over the weekend.

What I'd really like to control it is a plug with built in RCD and also a 24 hour timer.

I've had a google and not turned anythin up.

Any ideas how I can do this economically and neatly?

Buy a plug in timer socket and insert an RCD plug socket into that. Just check they will pysically fit together OK.

Could you upgrade the plug's circuit to include an RCD/RCBO at the board, then you only need the timer?

Sockets end up back at an old fused board, hence me wanting to put an rcd in place.

You can get RCD sockets and fcus. So either replace the socket you are using with an RCD version, or create a new RCDd spur/socket.

Where is the socket in relation to the water feature? Are you running it off a socket in the house or is it an external socket?

So it is a short extension lead type thing? Is it a CE marked pre-wired kit or something you are knocking up yourself?

I would personally fit one of these and supply it from an internal RCD spur. If you buy one of these kits, it will come with an RCD plug which you would then have to plug into a timer.

Please note installing a socket outside is notifiable work under part P of the building regs, however, fitting a CE marked pre-wired kit isn't. Unfortunately this will be rather bulky.

As I said, the easiest thing is to replace the socket with an RCD one, plug a timer into that, and your water feature plug into that. No Part P worries.

After a bit more thought,I feel I may be over complicating the issue asking for a timer.

I think for now I will just poke the wire through the wall and plug into a standalone plug in RCD.

I can always add a timer at a later stage if I feel its required.

Cheers chaps.
