"Who says coming to a major auto show doesn’t sell cars? Not us, and definitely not Ferrari and Lamborghini since both Italian automakers have announced that the models they brought to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show have sold out for 2011. That’s right, the recently launched Ferrari FF and the newly launched - as in last week - Lamborghini Aventador are both sold out for 2011. While we are not at all surprised that people scooped up the Aventador the second they could, we are shocked that something as unappealing as the FF could succeed at becoming sold out, especially considering the negative reaction people had after it launched.

Ferrari CEO’s, Luca di Montezemolo, announced at the Geneva Motor Show that "2011 is announcing to be a positive year" and that “we have already sold all 800 Ferrari FFs planned to be produced in 2011. We have registered impressive reaction on markets like Unites States, Emirates and Russia, countries were our presence was very slow due to the CO2 emission standards."

At the same time, Lamborghini boss, Stephan Winkelmann, told the media "we already sold more than 12 months of production," meaning a total of about 700 units. Just asa reminder, the Aventador is priced at $379.700."

A new model with a Ferrari or Lamborghini badge sells out for its first year of production.

Shocking news.

(Not having a dig at OP, more the article)

I do wonder how many of these have been bought to be sold on at a premium.

Given what we know about Ferrari's PR department, isn't it possible that they wants to boost interest in the FF and he's talking st?

Really not surprised. I'm holding out for the Aventador Roadster.

And some cash...

hehe

I quite agree. Also, people have had their name down for the Aventador for a lot longer than 8 days. I wouldn't be surprised if 2011's production was sold out long before the Geneva Motor Show.

From what I know, the Aventador 2011 allocation was sold out last year. I think the 2012 allocation is almost gone as well.

This doesn't mean it's a popular or good car - it just means the manufacturer is not producing many cars!

Lambo never do. Production is always kept small.

I put a letter of intent in on the Aventador (just known as Murci replacement then) in June 2006 and was number 32 on the list with HR Owen

'Orders' have been coming in for years already

Strange that. It was June 2006 when picking the Gallardo Spyder up that I first spoke to them about it.

Dealers in the US don't even know yet how many cars they will get. This is just beating the jungle drum trying to scare the tourists. And it of course very easy to sell out 2011 production - just produce only a handful and you're sold out....

So out of interest how many build slots do Sytner have this year?
I'm going to guess 15-20

Actually think about it my number must be too high

Let's say 30 weeks of full production - after the dealer demos
3 cars per day
450 customer cars
So let's say 45 UK cars

I have it on good authority that they don't. Nothing new, Ferrari always take ages sorting out slots.

I doubt the US dealers really do know how many cars they are getting.
It looks to me that Ferrari essentially are trading a €/$ position which they hedge then trade out of and allocate/realloacte slots on that basis.

For example last year a few of the people I know in the US were expecting Q4 458s. A friend of mine in Germany was expecting a Q2 car.

Then the dollar rose against the euro and suddenly the German car was delayed and the US cars turned up in Q3.

Looks a good business for Ferrari
