A certain company I have recommended on here, who I know can do a good job.

19 inch RS wheels off a TT. Car has only done 15,000 miles, but they had been refurbished on the cheap by the dealer I bought them from. Crap job, they blistered whilst sitting in the shed.

I wanted a decent job, and was quoted £65 per corner plus VAT for a proper full back to factory job. I told them I was in no hurry as the winter wheels are still on the car.

Went to collect today, and 3 out of 4 had raised pimples where clearly there was dirt/dust under the paint or lacquer, (2 in 2 or 3 places), and one even had a small chip on already!

Initially I was made to feel like I was asking too much and "they will never be perfect", but as more marks were pointed out they agreed to re-do them, and admitted they weren't a great job. Just seems such a waste of everyone's time - now they have to take the tyres off and start all over again (strip, over bake job), because someone didn't take a bit of care over it? And I have to borrow my mates jeep to drive and pick them up AGAIN!!

Grumble over, as you were!

No excuse - I've refurbed my own wheels before and it was ten months before the finish started to fade (and only then because I curbed the wheel).

I can relate.

I had my M3 wheels done a while back and before doing them, I searched and came up with a couple of options. I went for the one that was a tiny bit closer to me but was a bit more expensive than Lepsons.

When I pickked the wheels up, they looked pretty good. When I then washed and sealed the wheels, there were loads of little inclusions in the laquer. I assumed that was normal and that I was being picky.

Probably 3 months later, I took them back to the refub place as they were all bubbling. I was then told "M3 wheels are known for that, thats not our problem....have you scuffed them?"

Er, no. Not even remotely.

They then gave me a bit of paper saying if they needed re-doing and the wheels hadnt been damaged, they'd do it at 1/2 price (wow, thats very kind!).

I'll give them their dues, they did sort it but they made me feel like I was being awkward and that they were doing me a really big favour. I'm sorry, if you cant do a decent job for a shade under £500, then say so BEFORE I go without my car for a week.

Me too! Sadly they don't collect any more and I (wrongly) couldn't be arsed to drive to Kent or Swindon....

Definitely not too much to ask, especially when you look at it as another £20 in petrol!

Mobile units are inconsitent due to the many atmospheric variables, which will ALWAYS be present in a mobile unit.
That's not to say that some, and even most mobile units do a good job. Or even that static sites are not capable of producing really poor work. Just a case of going by recommendations, and not accepting the job until you are 100% happy.

Could be wrong but I think WW is a franchise, so quality depends on the franchisee.

Another vote for Lepsons...did my E46 MV2s for I think £300 and came back immaculate. They still look excellent 4 years later, apart from the scuffs I've inflicted on them...

How can I put this.... I've taken mine to a place in Guildford. wink

I'll report back on the second attempt.

I wouldn't bother with mobile - full oven bake job or not at all IMHO.

O/T but who did the wheels on your GS? I've a very similar car and have a pic of the wheel colour I am thinking of...looking at your profile, I think it might be the very car!

Let me know if you want me to remove this pic, I will do ASAP if its your car and you want me to.

When i get them refurbed its got to be a 'at home' dont want the hassle of ferrying wheels about etc (no spare wheels) so to be done in a day at home would be ideal although possibly not perfect.
Had seen this: http://web.me.com/marcus.gilbert/Main/My_TT_Mods/P...

Oh and O/T my Maser was an 06 car

good luck with yours! I lasted 18months, itch thoroughly scratched! Beautiful car but 9mpg (best was 15-16 on a steady run)and £5.5k running costs with another £4-5k due within a few months meant I had to let her go! frown Sad day but a few holidays to Barbados have sort of made up for it... errr
