so you need to carry between 1-5 people short and long distances, in comfort and without making them feel tired, not too slowly, not at some wallet draining sub 15's mpg, you want good space but not a huge bulk of a car thats rubbish in town or when parking, lots of toys and something that is reasonably good to drive and copes with crap roads as well as the good but it doesnt have to be the last word in steering and gearchange feel etc..

so what are we talking here ? well, we are talking abut the best REAL WORLD practical car for real world transport

what are your nominations ?

A volvo V70 D5 ?
A diesel Cayenne ?
A 535d touring ?
An audi avant of some description perhaps ?

Fairly sure I live in the real world and I'm quite happy with a 2 seater convertible.

Or are you talking about that other "real world" I keep hearing about (you know, the one where only cars with diesel engines are in the correct gear at any particular time?)

Well.. a helicopter would be ideal.

If budget doesn't stretch you can't go wrong with a Range Rover V8 Diesel.

Ha ha, indeed. There is no such thing as the real world.

The people that complain about "real world" mpg figures don't seem to appreciate that everyone has their own separate and different "real world".

A TARDIS or a reality check maybe???

Try reading what you are asking for and try and spot how many opposing contradictions you are asking for tongue out

I think the answer the OP is looking for is a Renault Modus 1.5D.

i read that post over and over and i still cant comprehend all of it. however what about a alfa 156 estate (sportwagon? or something) 2.4 JTD.

also do you mean 5 people including yourself or driver + 5? if its the latter, none of those cars will suit you..

Yes thanks, you're clearly struggling in the reading comprehension stakes though.
