I'm off to look at this 5 series with a mate tonight and was wondering if anyone has any views on whether it represents a good price.

http://users.autoexposure.co.uk/vehicle.cfm?Accoun...

He has had it inspected and the main items were as follows :

front bumper has crack and needs realigning
slight wear on rear tyre
rust spots undercarridge (popular)
Wheel caps showing slight corrosion

I'm not a huge BMW fan myself and consequently aren't oo up on the 5-series so just after a bit of a heads up on any known faults, worrying items in the list above (I assume rust is the worst one)

Thanks in advance.

rust spots on a 2007 car?? That would concern me. Especially on something thats supposed to be a prestige make.

Mileage is 84K BTW.

As the objective friend that is going along with him, I have to agree that the rust statement really stood out. The RAC inspector has told him that this is a relatively trivial thing to sort, but I must admit it would really worry me if it was my money I was parting with.

Dont think that is a good deal at all with that mileage. Rust on a 3 year old car would preclude me from even going to see it.

What's the consensus on the RAC reports anyway ?

I had one years ago on an Audi S2 and it turned out to be a right bag of spanners in the end. Have they got any better ?

The one edo has linked is also an efficient dynamics model, another 10bhp, lower road tax and a good chunk more economical. M Sport ones don't look that nice IMO

Depends on the car - they cant predict the gearbox going bang, but can help people who don't know what they are doing look for.

Personally I'd stick at this sort of budget with a car with some BMW warranty remaining/in place.

Look nice

This is where my money would go however, I know its more, but a private seller may suggest more room for negotiation

They do indeed. It would be void if:

Rust was caused by damage.
Poor repair
etc etc
