Have no experience of this. The child seats that can be booked with a hire car - are they generally any good, or very basic?

Never done it but I've heard bad stories. Always best to take your own with you if you can.

Did it once, never again.

It's free to take car seats on most airlines.

I had some from Hertz in Alicante. They cost more to hire than it would have been to buy them frown

Rory was 3 1/2 the next time we went overseas and needed a seat so we bought a Bubblebum which worked well. We have used it on numerous trips now, for the cinema, and when he has gone places with friends.

I have also heard that the Trunki Boostpak is goor for young ones. Each of these is designed specifically for travelling, and worth a look before you pay for crappy child seats.

Thanks all. We're taking our own, rather than pay an amount equal to 50% of the original cost of our very good seat, for something that may be st.

The ones supplied are crap and not suitable for babies and if you arrive late, it's like struggling with an octopus and twisted belts. We generally take a baby seat but frequently make do with the crap ones they supply once they're into forward-facing seats. Though I would rather take my own forward-facer, they're heavy and the baby allowance is usually 10kg and it's a question of what you can carry.
