That's shocking! It would be enough to put me off the car completely.

If the owner couldn't afford to put the proper Conti or Michelin tyres on, what else has he skimped on?

Looks like he couldn't afford to buy new wheels when they were kerbed either. No one would paint a mint set of Oem's black unless on a budget.

Does it have a towing hitch?;)

At a guess I'd say they put em on as the rears were too low, on the z4 forum i frequent it's mentioned when trading in to a BMW dealer if the car isn't on run flats with decent tread, min 5mm I think, they would knock money off the trade in price to factor in new tyres. I'd wager the cheap tyres were put on to offset the reduced value.

It's always a good indicator of the previous owners attitude to the car. When I look at buying a car it it things like tyres ane wiperblades that indicate how much care and diligence the previous owners have taken in the maintenance.

Any buyer of this should push for a discount to the sum of half the cost of a set of OEM recommended tyres and then use the Nankangs as drifting practice.

A friend of mine has the 18" wheels on his 4dr M3, and they look fabulous compared to the 19" rims.

Same is true of the E46 wheels too wink

Chap in Reading brought a new M3 in white (traded in a CSL) and it came with Black wheels/he had them painted. Happens a lot now and I think it looks better for it. My local wheel repair man is doing a lot of business with Infiniti because customers are asking for black wheels on new cars.

As for the tyres Im sure they will change them, if not it wouldnt take long to scrub them down to the limiters and then buy some decent shoes smile

black wheels..chavs!..'I want my car to look like it's on a race track'!...the muppets...that M3 looks terrible with those black wheels..it takes about £20k off the perceived value..theres a used car dealer near me that insists on painting all alloys on sports cars that he sells black..truly awful look and he doesn't seem to sell any of them that quickly. My reaction would be nice car, but get those 'Barry boy' wheels off it..

I think you missed my point. There is nothing wrong in buying an M3 Edition that already comes with black Oem wheels from the factory.

My point was that this is an 07 car that wasn't available with black wheels when it was made. This leads me to believe that the owner of the car has kerbed them and taken the cheap option of simply refurbing and painting them black instead of buying the proper replacement 220m polished rims.

It all smacks of a cheapskate owner hence the tow hook comment.biggrin

Old age happens to us all eventually mate wink

If you look at the last picture on the BMW Site you can make out NS-II's and the Kang on the otherside, i shamefully knew they were Nankangs just from the NS-II as my old Skyline R34 came with them on, had some hilarious results when you lifted off in the wet

WTF, you replace your wheels every time you kerb them?! What a silly waste of money.

I had a friend with a dark grey M3 who painted his wheels black... through choice!! Looked surprisingly good too (I thought it was going to look naff)

I have to agree on the Nankangs though, they're naff. But as someone above said, you'll probably find they're brand new just to stop the dealer knocking money off.
