House Insurance question re carpets + flood
Discussion
Hi, hopefully this is a simple one.
Had an accident upstairs (toilet cistern broke but that's another story) that meant we had quite a big flood going on.
The carpet in the bathroom is gone and we're replacing it with tiles. The water has spread and ruined the carpet/underlay on the landing and stairs as well as in 2 bedrooms that are close. The insurance is sending a company out that assess the damage and put new carpets down.
My question is if the landing, stairs and 2 bedrooms are replaced with new carpet that leaves one bedroom upstairs that has a different flooring in (laminate). What's the chances of getting them to replace the flooring in the 3rd bedroom to match? I don't want to be pulling a fast one here or have any problems paying the company to do this as it's not been damaged but i'd like it to match the rest of the house. I'm just curious if they'll just say no or not.
Thanks

if all rooms were the same you could have had it replaced as the new wouldn't match the old undamaged carpet. in this case, the laminate never matched the carpet so they won't play ball.
no harm in asking though, but I'd suggest you look to negotiate with the carpet firms who come to quote as regards to what deal they can offer on the additional room. it'll likely save them having to sell a roll end cheaply and they might lump the fitting all in one.

mum split a rad pipe in her lounge - water ruined the laminate and the parquet underneath. She got insurance to quote to replace like for like, then agreed value with them for payout - she then instructed an approved firm to replace with different flooring. insurance were happy to pay them, providing the invoice was under their quote. She endedup with solid wood flooring throughout the downstairs.
