Because when people clone cars it's a lot easier to just search the web for a matching car than wait to spot the required car on the road.

I haven't tried to hide my plates, but then there are a few hundred thousand silver E39s in the UK I'm sure. If it was something rare I do see the point.

Like the plates that are blanked out on the 'Supercars spotted' picture thread where often the plate is 'good plate' and less likely to be cloned........being on a 'supercar' too!
